BIG BROTHER AFRICA II

Big Brother Africa is back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Need I say more?
Hope this is as interesting as the BBA1 and BBN.
The Nigerian housemate is female and her name is Ofunnekama

An interesting fact is that there is going to be ‘shower hour’
‘Shower Hour’ is a BBA ‘tradition’, where they show the housemates when they are taking showers….I am talking about the full monty!
I kind of feel bad for the Nigerian babe ‘cause I suspect that the moral police in Nigeria will eat her for lunch because of shower hour….lets see how it goes….
I will be watching!

Here are the contestants/housemates
Click here for the BBA website
Ofunnekama Molokwu

Gender: Female
Place of Birth: Jos, Plateau
Height: 1.6m
Occupation: Personal Assistant to Medical Director
Nigerian Big Brother Africa 2 housemate Ofunnekama is a 29-year-old Lagos resident who holds a BSC degree in Chemistry. The straight talking Ofunnekama says that the event that changed her life was the recent end of a relationship which she describes as “an eye opening experience.” She would love to travel to Rome and to visit the Vatican to see the Pope.
Asked to name her best achievement so far, Ofunnekama says that it was when she was named Staff of the Year just six months into her new job. “This showed me that with God by my side, hard work and determination, I am destined for greatness and my colleagues and my boss saw this too.” She’s also very clear about why she entered Big Brother Africa saying that she wanted to participate “for the exposure, to sell my talents to the whole of Africa, and explore opportunities beyond the shores of my country.” A fan of reading, cooking and listening to music (“all at once”), Ofunnekama believes that “the sky is just the beginning”.

I'm 4tttttttttttthhhhh!!! Yes man. I'm quite disappointed with d choices of d men dis year. But the Ethiopian dude's still cute though. D naija babe fine sha.

Tutsy said...

Okay i might be a tad bit late but no yawa....still made the top 5.

Okay on some serious "ish"...u almost gave me a heart attack when i saw Monday July 6th on your entry....as in WTF...did i miss something?....thought today was Sunday.....then i had an Einstein moment!....lol.(forgive me, i could be a little slow at times...lol)..U are in Asia!!! or so i heard....now it makes sense....lol...Anywayz, how are things going in the new environment....i trust u should have adjusted by now....make sure u enjoy every minute of it....remember.. this is the time to travel around the world and experience different cultures.... when u are young and single i mean, so make the most of it.

Now to the nitty-gritty....i'm so not a fan of big brother....couldn't even tell u what the show was about...but i would tell u what i know....that's a nice cast they have up there. And the dude from Zambia....one word...."SMOKING"!!!. Too bad the show doesn't air here in yankee....cuz i sure as hell would have tuned in just to get a glimpse of his foine ass.....lol

To conclude, i would love to comment about your entry on sunday...which otherwise would be today.....lol...if we were in the same continent....i find it rather amusing and a tad bit disturbing that our magazine would celebrate women like Caroline Ekanem. I find it even more disgusting that the number of househelps she has must be published in order for us to "understand" how "lucky" she is. For heavens sake...if anything her ass should be ridiculed for pimping herself. Is that all she's really worth? A house in Omole....a friggin Honda accord, Italian Furniture and a Mercedes Jeep? I guess that's the right message to send out to young girls right? Strut your gold-digging asses into some oil tycoon's office and demand all the good things in life in exchange for your morals...your values...thats is ofcourse.. if the price is right... Never mind the fact that dude has multiple wives and u are just another notch under his belt. Hell, if Caroline the beautiful biracial actress did it your ass should aspire for the same. Shame on whoever wrote that article!!!!
We fill our young people's head with junks like this and then we wonder why the prostitution rate is so high on our college campuses......its sad....really sad!

Wow am so lucky innit? I arrived Nigeria like a week ago and am due back in london tommorrow so I just barely made the day one of the big brother show. I must say it was da bomb men. I didn't sleep till like 3am and woke up again at 6am to continue watching. The house mates are really cool, especially that Ghanian guy and the SA girl and Meryl from namibia.

Tatiana, from angola, Code - the guy from mali, who also has a guitar and bertha a lawyer from zimbabwe are also very lovely people. A ugandan girl maureen said she likes walking around naked, and she surely didnt dissapoint the guys. Kabelo even tried to hit on her last night in the intro. LOL.

In fact I would say this really beats the big brother UK or anyother one av ever watched. The girls are very nice and funny and outgoing and are attractive as well. Well set too. Big brother is also very liberal here as he shows a lot of stuff that are xxx.

There is also one really short guy who they all take a mick of and all call him lepi, a short form for lepricorn but he doesnt know thats the meaning. This morning when they were talking about periods, he didn't even get it until they mentioned the word menses. They just enjoy tossing him around.

Last night, most of them were drunk, then they this guy on the guitar and another one a djembe drum so the ghanian guy - kweku was freestyling. Then this SA girl and her partner in crime then comes over and tries to freestyle as well. It later turned to a steamy flirtitous episode between the guy and the girls where they started talking some really raw and horny shit(sry bout my lang) to each other.

Then this morning, they showed some showr hour and almost all of them went commando. Even their british big brother counterparts didnt go commando on their first day, except this crazy makosi girl, if I can still remember well. Am dead sure that before the end of this week, someone might get pregnant in that house if they are not careful. That would be interesting tho.

Finally I would just like to comment about the Nigerian girl. She is very gentle, quiet and well cultured. I mean that is good for her but I dont think she should have come to big brother because all that good stuff she's doing dont make good television. Coming to big brother in the first place is bad enough as you have to show yourself nude and all that stuff... so if you are not down for all that then why show up. Last night she was just drinking water and juice while everyone else was on champagne, wine and beer, I dont think she is having fun and I dont think she was a good Nigerian selection for that show. In short it just means she is the good one among the bad ones. Good and bad dont go together so if you want to be good, stay good and if you want to be bad then stay bad. Sry if I sound harsh but I kinda thought she was a bit out of place.

The ghanian guy seems nigerian i think. First he speaks with an american accent but like in a Nigerian way, as in he hasn't got all that ghanian pronounciation factors, then sometimes he bursts out some deep nigeria slangs and pidgeon like no long ting, was d koko, abeg o no wahala me o and so on and his mannerisms portray nigerians too much. I mean I know how ghanians behave men, av worked with a lot of them for ages and I'm guessing he isnt ghanian, hes just probably got a ghanian passport and name. well whatever, dont hold me to that, its might just be my crazy idea.

See y'all later.
Cheers.

TUTSY DONT BLAME CAROLINE.
NAIJA HAVE A LOT OF RETARDES STUPID REPORTERS AND JOURNALIST WHO PUT CELEB'S INTERVIEW IN SO MANY WORDS.

I DONT BELIEVE FOR A SECOND CAROLINE GAVE THEM ANY DAMN INTERVIEW BRAGGING ABOUT HER ACQUIRED WEALTH.

DOHHHHHHHH
CANT YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES AND SEE ITS JUST ANOTHER FOOLISH RETARDED NEWS REPORTER, PUTTING OUT GIST HE JUST HEARD.

I USE TO JUDGE CAROLINE (ESP AFTER READING HER INTERVIEW WHERE SHE MENTIONED TUFACE AND THEN BRAGGIGN ABOUT HER LIGHT SKIN - I FELT LIKE SHE WAS SUCH AN AIRHEAD, TO TALK LIKE THAT) BUT I DONT ANYMORE COS I LEARNT ALMOST ALL THE INTERVIEWS OF HER THEY TWEEK IT, LIKE THE MANY OTHER CELEBS IN NAIJA. MOST OF THEM HATE THESE REPORTERS THEY DONT EVEN GIVE THEM THE TIME OF DAY TO GIVE THEM INTERVIEW, YET THEY'LL MAKE SOMETHING UP TO SELL PAPER.

FOOLISH IDIOTS. I CANT STAND NAIJA TABLOID REPORTERS. THEY ARE SO RETARDED.

To the person talkng bout Kwaku (wednesday born) may not be ghanaian, What do you know about Ghanaians, just cos you may have come across a few village champions from ghana who dont speak eloquently or articulate doesnt mean all ghanaians speak like that. What do you mean he doesnt have ghanaian pronounciation factors.???????;lol

And for your information ghanaians (especially those who were raised in Accra) speak very eloquently and and the guys speak pidgeon amongst themselves, which is just like naija broken english but slightly different. So what you hearing kwaku speak or have heard actors Van Vicker, Nadia Buari or Jackie Speak is not fake.THAT IS HOW THE GHANAIANS FROM THE CITY OF ACCRA SPEAK (and its all based on where you grew up and what international primary school you attended). Not all african countries speak like NIGERIA -We dont need to fake it. If they sounding too proper in your ears, thats just it. :lol We speak well -Thank You :lol. SO ON THAT NOTE, KWAKU IS GHANAIAN. though many nigerians now want to have ghana passports ;lol, trust me, kwaku is 100% ghanaian :lol

Peace

Dem no see finer men? *Hiss* We have them lpenti for Naija now!

Damola said...

@anonymous - kwaku's friend.

You don't need to sound so arrogant/threatened. Nigerians are nice and lovely people so I don't think you should see us as a theat/competition.

It was just an observation I made and I specifically said no one should take my word for it, that it was just an Idea.

And by the way, if everyone in the world knew everything, then life would be some really boring place as no one would need to learn anything.

Okkkkk i luv the Ugandan Babe Mou Mou (Maureen)- shez sexy, sassy and interesting! Shez sure to be there for quite a while..Oh by the way abt nigerians ..they never dissapointed anyone...so the nigerian babe is in for a long while and Just-ice (justice) cd be the crowd's favourite. I find the Kenyan too serious, boring and predictable! My prediction is he will be the first one to be evicted... the Nambian babe is kinda mean, but boring... Then woooooowwww... TATIANA! Hmmm.. u would be a fool not to vote her to stay in the house.. Keep the interesting ones in.. and the boring one out....

joicee said...

Nice post. I love the zim. girl and I hope she wins...and I think of all the girls in the house the naija babe has the least charm.

chie said...

I think I am already liking the Naija babe. But seriously y'all, how come we don't watch these African shows in the US?

Anonymous said...

I think they could have made a better choice for a nigerian representitive. the nigerian girl is not authentically nigerian. too gentle, too decent, not enough 419 blood, too proper, and not enough misplaced-big-words in her speech. and also, most nigerian girls i know are quite hot. very hot chicas. this one, not so much.

Anonymous said...

"abeg I berra not see a e-fight erupt over that bordeline worwor kwaku"

hahahahaha...lmfao...hahaha......borderline worwor...hahahahha

"The ghanian guy seems nigerian i think. First he speaks with an american accent"

typical nigerian self-centredness. I always find it quite amusing when nigerians call ghanaians accents weird, and seem to imply that their accents are more "english-sounding". Do you not watch CNN or BBC???? I love nigerian people but you've gotta admit, your english sucks! and you know it.
Also you certainly don't know ghanaians as well as you think you do because ghanaians and nigerians have very overlapping popular cultures. Pidgin is as ubiquitous in ghana as it is in nigeria.

didi abeg cool down, g'an eat some kenkey or something, no need to get high blood pressure over that. We gerrit, ghanaians are multi-faceted and just because the bobo na proper bloke doesn't mean he's trying be naija. Chale, we gerrit!

AFRICA ARISE!

LOVERS OF AFRICA ARISE!

LET US FIGHT POVERTY EXPLOITATION!

When Hitler did it to the Jews, the whole world rose with one voice and cried foul.

When slavery was the order of the day, men of conscience stood firm and fought to abolish it.

IN Africa today, poverty has diminished our values as human beings culturally and emotionally. Our young men and women have been the most affected by poverty.

The since of hopelessness , and fear of a bleak future now make our youths take actions that no reasonable human being would take, in their quest to flee poverty and better their lot in life.

The deserts of Africa and the oceans surrounding it are littered with the bodies of our youths who risked their lives fleeing poverty. Many leave behind family and loved ones, the comfort of a fairly stable life, some of them with university education and risk their lives in the faint hope of improving their lives by doing menial jobs in the developed world.. Prostitution drugs and crime are no more taboos. Anything goes in the quest to alleviate poverty. All manners of people have, local and foreign, moved in to take unfair and abusive advantage of the situation.

ABUSIVE, PERVERSE, AND EXPLOITATIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Recently the whole world gasped in shock when a famous athlete was accused of engaging in dog fights but in Africa human beings are treated worse than animals sometimes and the whole world watch in amusement.

IT IS TIME FOR ALL ARICANS AND MEN AND WOMEN OF CONSCIENCE TO STAND UP AND FIGHT PERVERSE, DEGRADING AND EXPLOITATIVE ENTERTAINMENT BY CALLING MTN AND IT’S BIG BROTHER SOUTH AFRICA REALITY SHOW WHICH IT HAS PROUDLY DUBBED ‘THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH’ TO ORDER

It is sad that this show is coming from South Africa, a country with a history of apartheid and racism and the cast of the current ignominious show is black and colored.

HOW THE SHOW GOES

F A dozen young men and women of diverse backgrounds are cramped into a very tiny apartment.

F They are tapped and wired with all manner of electronic gadgets like animals and all their actions and discussions right from the bathroom through the bedroom to the garden are monitored and beamed to the out side world. Their genitals and most intimate actions and discussions are monitored, broadcast, abused and regarded as fair game.

F Debauchery and pornography is encouraged to titillate their viewers

F Twenty-four cameras are trained on them twenty-four hours a day. It is an offence for an inmate to switch off his or her microphone.

F They pay for their food with money earned in the house from prescribed tasks by their ‘jailer’ called Big brother

F They cook and clean by themselves

F They are plied with alcohol to loosen their inhibitions and libido so that they can provide more “entertainment”

F While this is going on, insulting and abusive messages are flashed on the screen degrading and ridiculing the inmates. They are totally secluded from the outside world – no radio; no television; no phone calls, nothing. So they are totally oblivious to what is going on in the outside world.

F One frustrated member asked to go and we are told he was asked to ‘rethink’. Another publicly declared his intention, to check out, we do not know what ‘persuaded or pressured’ him to stay.

F At least one member visibly cracked up before our very eyes and even a fool can see the stress and trauma these inmates these inmates were going thorough.

F Their Big Brother condescendingly asks: 'Do you need a psychologist?’

F The whole show looks more like a concentration camp where slaves are kept and used for experiment to test the limit of humiliation, mental and physical degradation, an African can endure until he cracks, if a tiny carrot is dangled before his eyes.

F Is this called ‘entertainment?’ We call it ‘Heartless Exploitation of Poverty’

F Let us take some steps back in history.

F If television had been invented long ago and a multinational company or a rich business man put a camera in the concentration camp and beams the agony, degradation torture and annihilation of the Jews to the whole world and called it Reality TV, the greatest Show on earth, what would you have done?

F If there were cameras in the galleys of the slave ships, Will you be titillated by seeing slaves matting or watching their nakedness?

F Don’t say the Big Brother inmates volunteered or that they signed contracts. WE know. Those youths who risk their lives and die in the deserts and oceans of Africa in search of greener pastures outside Africa volunteered too and signed contracts with death... They were literarily forced by poverty to volunteer to die or make it.

THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER EXPERIECED POVERTY HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE IT’S EFFECT ON THE HUMAN MIND.

MEN AND WOMEN OF CONSCIENCE CAN AND SHOULD NOT FOLD THEIR HANDS AND WATCH THIS HAPPEN IN THE 21ST CENTURY. ACT NOW.

THE REWARD

· The declared winner in this morbid experiment gets one hundred thousand dollars – repeat, one hundred thousand dollars ONLY

· The eleven other participants get nothing.

· MTN laughs all the way to the bank with proceeds from ‘The Greatest Show On Earth’

· Listening to conversations by inmates they genuinely believe the exposure in the show is their ticket to a better life, employment or fame.

· They reel out names of past inmates who got jobs etc after the show. We do not hear of those whose fortunes got worse.

PEOPLE ARISE – TAKE ACTION NOW

1. MTN and all sponsors of the show must be called to order. When they held the same reality show in Nigeria, there was no nudity because the Nigerian Government put its foot down on that issue.

2. The nudity paraded in the show is un-African and it violates and tramples on the cultural and religious sensitivities of most African countries except maybe South Africa with impunity and arrogance.

3. Since the programme is beamed through cable viwership is virtually impossible to monitor or regulate no matter the classification given to it by the producers. Men, women and children can view the show at will.

4. The governments do not have the know-how, resources or ability to block cable Transmission to their countries. Banning the transmission of one cable programme only is meaningless. If the governments ban cable networks from operating in their domain or ban its citizens from watching cable, the world will cry ‘foul’ They grumble Helplessly

5. This is cultural imperialism.

6. There are countries in the world that relish pornography or adult movies and have legalized and regulated its viewing. but the artistes are PAID in cash. They don’t camouflage it as ‘Reality Show’

7. Let every man and woman picket, institute lawsuits, boycott MTN and it’s services, their sponsors, petition their Governments to push MTN out of their country, ostracize their Staff , do anything you can within the law to drive the point home that heartless exploitation of poverty in Africa is not acceptable and will no longer be tolerated, until we achieve our Goals which are:

GOALS

o Respect for the cultural and religious sensitivities of Africa...

o Stop all heartless exploitation of African poverty.

o Commensurate and appropriate fees should be paid for in cash for all relevant actions and services rendered by Africans, regardless of secondary benefits or contracts that violate their human rights or their culture.

o Pay all Inmates or Housemate of Big Brother Shows.

We suggest:

F The winner gets one hundred thousand dollars.

F The second place winner, seventy thousand dollars.

F Third place winner, fifty thousand dollars

F The remaining nine housemates, two thousand dollars a week depending on how long they stayed in the house.

F In addition, they should be paid a percentage of the profits plus royalty.

LET US FORM AN INTERNATIONAL NGO AND LOCAL NGOS TO FIGHT THIS CAUSE.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

AFRICAN DIGNITY MUST PREVAIL INSPITE OF OUR POVERTY.

Hi, want to share this article written by the distinguished and well-respected Nigerian journalist and columnist for the Nigerian national newspaper, the Independent Newspapers (www.independentngonline.com), Mr. Ugochukwu Ejinkeonye. It is titled: “Big Brother Africa: Debasing Self For A Fee”. It has appeared in several newspapers and in internet sites in Africa and America, and also on his blog: http://www.ugochukwu.blog.com

“BIG BROTHER AFRICA: DEBASING SELF FOR A FEE”
By Ugochukwu Ejinkeonye

Recently, Big Brother Africa (BBA2) Reality Show ended in South Africa amidst much din, slimy scandals and lingering controversies, and the only coherent statement it was able to make was that in this our very unfortunate and bankrupt age, money has acquired an even greater and awesome powers, and its capacity to compel otherwise rational human beings to gleefully part ways with every bit of their honour and dignity, be disdainful all considerations for decency and self-esteem, and enthusiastically indulge in several nauseating, self-debasing acts, has exceeded what anyone had thought was possible in decent society.

I am not a fan of the Big Brother nonsense, and all such shows, like beauty pageants, where people are paid and cheered on to throw their honour and dignity as human beings to the dogs, to satisfy the depraved taste of irredeemable voyeurs. In fact, if there were no generous reports about these events in the media, which one occasionally glanced through, I may never have known that anything like BBA2 ever took place. But I am a grateful that I read some of those reports, because, it would never have occurred to me that some murky-hearted fellows, with excess cash to spend, could go all out to turn their fellow human beings into a little less than animals, confined in some glorified human zoo, where the most depraved among them could go as wild and immoral as he or she could, to dishonour and make a very big fool of himself or herself, before millions of TV viewers in Africa and beyond, in order to earn $100, 000.

While this lure of lucre endures, do these fellows ever stop to think that the footage of their disgraceful outing in South Africa would survive tomorrow, and that they would have children and grandchildren whose sensibilities would be perpetually assaulted by the awful pornographic footages they were gleefully producing in their blind rush for $100,000?

According to reports, the Housemates took their bathe together during what they called “Shower Hour,” and while the boys stripped to their boxers, the girls bared everything, not just before the boys whom they had never met until they were selected and confined in the Big Brother zoo, but, also, millions of viewers out there, which may have included kids from their households and neighborhoods! (Forget the age-restriction crap). Imagine the kid brothers and sisters or tender nephews and nieces of the Housemates seeing their big aunties they once held in high esteem flaunting their stark nudity on the screen with every brazenness and shamelessness. What in the name of all that is decent and noble can we possibly call this?

Well, some of the girls, however, occasionally bathed with their underpants on, and only bared their chests, but that, no doubt, did not diminish the grave obscenity the whole thing still constituted.

Now how would these clearly bird-brained fortune hunters rejoin and face the same society before whom they had shamelessly and grossly cheapened themselves, by flaunting the pride of their womanhood before every willing eye? Should even $1billion dollars be enough to compel anyone to do this?

Indeed, Feminists and Women Rights activists would never protest this clear debasement of the woman, because this is not the kind of advocacy that attracts grants. This should not be surprising to anyone because it is still from the same cabal that prosecutes these obscene shows that the major bulk of sponsorships flow.

Although virtually everything about BBA was horrible, revolting and scandalous, a consensus exists that the most horrible scandal it yielded, now popularly known as “fingergate,” reportedly, took place on Saturday, 27 October 2007. I first read about it on Nigerians In America, in an article by Ms. Bolanle Aduwo, a screenwriter, broadcaster and producer.

Please permit me to quote her account of the obscene incident:

“…Biggie had provided plenty of booze (undiluted, Russian vodka) and what resulted was an incident that will definitely go down as one of the most scandalous moments in Big Brother history. The housemates became crazed, drunken zombies and engaged in acts better suited for a porno movie. The evening eventually ended in what many call a possible rape! Or how do you explain the actions of Richard, the 24-year-old Tanzanian film student and the only male occupant of the House fondling and ‘fingering’ a comatose, blind-drunk Ofunneka, a 29-year-old Medical Assistant from Nigeria?…The whole of Africa saw this girl’s “privates”… What happened… horrified viewers as Richard lying between the two comatose women, undressed them and began to fondle, kiss and ‘finger’ both of them!”

This incident had provoked serious outrage across Africa. A Women Rights group in South Africa had called for the footage of the incident, only to announce later, after viewing it, that it agreed with MNET, that what happened between Richard and Ofunneka was consensual. Nigeria’s House of Representatives, groping for some form of self-redeeming tasks, after Ettehgate, had also waded into the matter, something I had thought was an entirely private misadventure between the girl and the South African prurient millionaires.

But why does it seem Africa has suddenly awakened from its moral slumber just because fingergate happened? Well, if you ask me, the matter is very simple: Even if there were no “fingergate,” all the people who participated in BBA2 had irremediably soiled their honour and dignity? What sort of girls would gleefully strip themselves nude, to bathe, not only in the full gaze boys, but also before more than one million TV viewers across Africa? (If the boys wore their shorts and the girls chose to bare everything, what kind of statement were they making about their gender?) Just the other day, while gathering materials for this piece, I stumbled on a blog where a photograph of Ofunneka was posted holding her towel apart and proudly baring her not particularly appealing chest for all to see! So, even without “fingergate,” was that not self-demeaning enough?

On Monday, I visited a website, http://www.ofunneka.com, where all sorts of hate posts were heaped on the doorsteps of “Richard the rapist,” who “stole the crown.” All sorts of stories were dredged up to rubbish the Tanzanian, as if he did not rubbish himself enough while in the BBA zoo. But while countless sympathizers were out there condemning MNET for the indecent show and calling for Richard’s head for “sexually abusing” Ofunneka, the “innocent, well-behaved, but stone-drunk symbol of decent African woman,” the girl was at the other place addressing a press conference, apologizing for what happened and dismissing reports that she was raped. Saturday PUNCH of November 24, 2007, quotes her as saying: “I will say that I let down my guards a little, but then I am human.”

I am seriously touched by this girl’s predicament. It is painful to imagine that she might carry the shame of her disastrous BBA appearance all her life. It must be clear to her now that whoever counseled her into the BBA folly has done her a grave harm. The most noble job she must engage herself in now would be to always dissuade any other person she encounters to avoid BBA like a plague despite the money.

In this internet age, it should not surprise her that countless blogs would spring up tomorrow, attracting serious traffic to themselves with footages of “fingergate” and some of her nude pictures from Shower Hour at the Big Brother zoo. A costly mistake has already been made by going to the BBA house, and a costly price must be paid.

But, if by her own painful predicament, other young Africans are able to learn that it is practically impossible to safeguard one’s honour and dignity in such a morally bankrupt enclave like BBA house, created solely to promote obscenity and depravity, to service the vulgar tastes of prurient men and women, she should consider the sacrifice worthwhile. Who is even sure that “fingergate” was not scripted and directed by MNET, to diminish her rising profile in the media as the symbol of true African woman, which would have created serious problems for MNET when eventually Richard was declared “winner”?

By Richard “victory”, what statement has MNET succeeded in making? That it was alright for a man who was married to suddenly “fall in love” with another woman he had just met on a reality TV show; engage in open and revolting adulterous acts with this new lover or concubine on satellite TV, knowing full well that his wife was at home watching; and then while in the same bed with his new lover, he engages in wild sexual acts with yet another woman, on the same bed! And after it all, according to a report in Namibian of October 29, 2007, he excitedly pronounces: “I have seen the rivers and mountains of Big Brother…I’m going to bump all the women in BBA house.” What a vulgar celebration of hideous conquests!

With all the nauseating exploits of Richard’s, which earned him the prize, what MNET is saying is that for anyone to win the next BBA (assuming this won’t be the last), he must simply become an animal like Richard, because it is only animals that win its price; yes, such a person must regard and treat women as mere playthings.

Now the point has also been regularly made, namely, why watch BBA if you know it would offend your mind? Indeed, amateur porn channels and websites like BBA abound, but they do not attract generous positive reviews from “serious” newspapers like BBA does. MNET can afford to inflict its violent obscenity only on interested viewers if it could check its invasion of our newspaper pages the way it does.

Nor should the government show more than a passing interest in shows like BBA, as the Nigerian House Assembly or the Federal Government did recently. Now, I have no problems with the Information Minister, Mr. John Odey, offering a job to Miss Ofunneka Molokwu, as he reportedly did the other day, if that would console her, but he has no right to declare that by appearing on that reprehensible show, she has “represented us well” and has, today, become “the Heart of Africa.”

No doubt, it must be clear to the minister that he was speaking himself, and I insist that he makes this clear immediately. In fact, President Umar Musa Yar’Adua must call him to order before he uses the stain of BBA to further rubbish his ailing regime. On no account must the Federal Government appear to endorse such a horribly obscene show that has offended many decent people in Africa and has even been banned by some African governments.

Mr. Odey, since he had excess time to squander, should have merely consoled the girl, assuaged her pain over the BBA misadventure, but more importantly, used that opportunity to urge other Nigerians youths to shun such shows no matter the huge prize money they dangle, if they do not wish to encounter such tragedies like “fingergate.” And I think I am right.
