THE BELLANAIJA HOT LIST II

Happy Monday!
I said I had something special planned for today so here goes.
It’s the BellaNaija Hot List II
Its my take on the hottest things of the moment – People, Destinations, TV Shows and many more…
Its my opinion so you don’t have to agree but I would love you to enjoy so here goes…

__________________________________________________________ THE LOOK – Yellow & Puff-Sleeves
Without a doubt, Yellow is the colour of the season.
You don’t have to go all out with this and do a matchy yellow outfit.
Throw on a yellow dress or bag or even just a yellow headband, a dash of yellow is enough to make you look uber-fab….
Puff-Sleeves are definitely in! They are flattering to people with various figures. Try a puff-sleeved shirt with a more classic bottom (jeans/pants/skirt) or go all out with a puff-sleeved dress in a bright colour.
Check out Deola Sagoe’s embellished yellow puff-sleeved dress or Kemi’s more avant-garde Lanre da Silva-Ajayi outfit. The yellow bag is by celebrity-favourite, Nigerian handbag designer, Onna Ehrlich.

THE SPOT - 6°n
6°n (sixdegreesnorth) is the spot. With its high concept design, atmosphere and crowd, 6°n is THE Hot Spot.

THE DESTINATION - Cross River State, Nigeria Cross-River State is the ultimate tourist destination in Nigeria. From Obudu Ranch Resort to Tinapa, there is a mélange of possibilities for you to explore. Ask anybody who has been, its totally worth a visit! You will be quite proud of Nigeria.

THE MAG - What's New

What’s New? I’m sure you’ll like to know.
To find out the hottest and freshest places to visit in Lagos, you need to grab a copy of ‘What’s New – The Lagos City Guide’. Photos, articles, reviews and all you could possibly want to know about the current Lagos social scene. I guess the first form of flattery is competition so look out for new city guides such as Time Out Nigeria.

THE BIZ - Nigerian-Owned Makeup Lines

Nigerian-owned Makeup Lines such as Tara Fela Durotoye’s Tara Orekelewa, Toni Payne Makeup, BM Pro by Banke Meshida-Lawal and LISE by Enitan Balogun are doing extremely well. They are a favourite among women who want quality makeup that is especially made with the African woman’s lifestyle in mind. Some of the lines also offer young Nigerian women an opportunity to earn extra income by acting as retailers of the products. Entrepreneurship + Beauty = Definitely HOT.

THE READ - Yellow Yellow

Kaine Agary’s ‘Yellow Yellow’ has built a lot of buzz! From the editor-in-chief of Takaii Magazine comes a surprisingly poignant tale of a lost soul with the Niger-Delta region as a worthy backdrop. Yellow Yellow is definitely worth checking out!

THE PHENOMENON - TV Talent ShowsLast year it was Big Brother Nigeria, this year, its Nokia First Chance, Shine, Star Quest and most famously, Idols West Africa, there are so many current TV Talent Shows yet the viewing audience can’t seem to get enough. TV Talent Shows are the hot phenomenon.

THE CAREER - Styling/Image Consulting
Last year it was Make-up Artistry, this year is the Year of the Stylists.
From former Miss Lux, Ifeoma Njoku Williams to uber stylists - Omoyemi Akerele and Bola Balogun back to Ezinne Ihe Okuneye and Chalya Shagaya, stylists are doing big things. From the photo spreads you see in True Love Magazine to styling the contestants on Idols West Africa and Nokia First Chance to fashion shows. Styling/Image Consulting is a fun and HOT career. Worth exploring? That’s up to you!

THE WOMAN - Osayi Alile Oruene

Through encouraging and teaching young Nigerians about the merits of entrepreneurship and training them for their future entrepreneurial ventures via the FATE Foundation, Osayi Alile Oruene has made an indelible mark on the next generation. She was recognized as one of 250 Young Global Leaders for 2007 from the World Economic Forum.

THE MAN
- Matthew Mensah
Health PR’s Matthew Mensah along with Femi Amure conceived the idea for the UN CatWalk the World – Fashion For Food Program - See CatWalk the World Accra coverage which has raised immense awareness and thousands of dollars for the World Food Program provides food to the World’s most vulnerable hunger victims. He is currently involved with SAVE OUR CHILDREN - Orphanage Campaign Africa which raises funds and awareness for orphaned children via celebrity endorsement and other innovative campaigns. Previous campaigns include orphanage visits and fundraining in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Went to 6 degrees several times over the xmas break. This might seem like something small, but it's really important for a 'nightspot's atmosphere' - the sound system is horrible! You can actually hear the speaker panels vibrating! And sometimes it makes this loud pitchy sound in between.

Was really disappointed cause the decor was not bad...Highlights a recurring problem with many places/businesses in Naija - lofty ideas, but poor finishing/attention to details. Surely enough money has been made from Bacchus over the years that they can channel a little extra to their audio equipment. Just saying...

really enjoy reading your blog Bella...

Is Mr MENSAH SINGLE??

Anonymous said...

awww Bella! great job...you seem to be coming out of your slump, thank goodness!

But the Mensa dude is really impressive, that's what I want to do when i grow up (lol)

Have a great week!

Anonymous said...

Bella great post, but totally disagree with 6 degrees being the "spot" o. For those that don't live in Lagos, it's just a hopeless extention of dingy Baccus club..a half-a**ed attempt to revive the place. Don't even bother. The place sucks.

Love the compilation. Beautiful. Strong choices. Have a great day!

Matthew Mensah is hot...LOL. I agreew with the make-up by Nigerians. I dont wear much makeup but i am suprisingly loving the stuff from Tara. Yellow-Yellow - emm, it was a hard read for me..

Absolutely fabulous

Anonymous said...

I sooo agree with Anonymous 3:15 & 2:29, i was in 6degrees during my last visit, and i was highly disappointed!

Anonymous said...

Bella, u try oh! You should be doing this at least once a week ( a really exhaustive post for your readers :) i really like deola sagoes dress, all in all a tip top post. Oh and Mr Mensah looks Hattt ;)

Adaure Achumba said...

KAINE AGARY IS NOT BIRACIAL!!!!! NOW WHERE DID I GET THAT IDEA THAT SHE WAS....PERHAPS I GOT A BIT CARRIED AWAY WITH THE REALNESS OF THE BOOK.

Ironic that the color of the season is 'Yellow' and the book is 'Yellow-Yellow' ...Cute one Bella and definitely A HOT LIST.

Anonymous said...

lovely note...the last two entries in the note really caught my eye!! amid all these enhancements in the Nigerian social scene, we still need to remember that the backdrop is often at times abject poverty for a lot of our people...so let's strive to uplift both worlds at the same time. great note though!!

Finally Mensah got on here...he deserves to be recognized.

Meanwhile you missed the party, just have Miss T gist you.

Mathew Mensah - what a nice ghanaian mix breed just like our very own Boris Kodjoe and Van Vicker.

God bless his heart and his philanthropic ways. That alone is Very attractive - shows he is kind, generous and thoughtful of the poor. Love him for that.

And so i also ask Matthew "Wa Ware Anaa"? are you married?

Unknown said...

Thanks to Bella Naija for putting some light to the campaign we are doing for Orphans across Africa.
(& thanks for the compliments posted, Very much appreciated) I am happy to announce that TUFACE have joined our campaign for Stop Child Hunger in aid for Orphanages and will personally be joining me and UN WFP on the campaign across Africa. On the 12th of May will RMD and I go to Sierra Leone to take part in the Walk For Stop Child Hunger and help some Orpanages there. We will be doing a press confernce in Lagos where all the Nigerian UN selected celebs will be present including my close friend Ramsey, Stella, RMD, Omotola and ofcourse Tuface... I am sure you will see more to the campaign via Bellanaija.
Ps: It is true that my fantastic girlfriend is Yoruba and its true that WHEN I marry it can only be to a Nigerian girl BUT that I am engaged already is news to me and I am sure to my Girlfriends family. Ha ha. Not Yet!

Thanks to all of you who help us create a better life for the children in need & please remember it is not about money but One can help just by visiting an Orphanage and bring food, books, clothes or just spend time playing with the children.

Thanks,

Matthew Mensah

Adaure Achumba said...

WOW!!!! at that last comment from 'Matthew' or his 'PA'.
I can just see all the girls fainting

Anonymous said...

It is really Mensah,Adaure. Gave him heads up about the post and teased him about being married. I certainly did not get an invitation and I thought I was Numero Uno Nigerican gal on his list. lol! He was hilarious when he replied that he did not know he was married. LMAO! He is geunine and Bella he does love your blog. Keep up the good work!

Anonymous said...

great hot list. yes we all know that bola and yemi pioneered fashion styling in nigeria they have styled tons of mags, tv shows, celebs, fashion shows and ad camapaigns etc. but these other "stylists" have not even accomplish nothing have any of them styled anything succeful or memorable in nigeria please bella only talk about the real deals not publicity hungry "fashionestas"

Anonymous said...

luv this hot list.

one slight concern is your recommendation of Yellow Yellow. It must be the worse book i have ever read in my life. We read it in my book club and for the first time, all 20 of us were in agreement as to the quality of the writing.

but keep it up.

Deola Sagoe is one of a kind. Very talented, innovative, fresh, different ... and what have you? Pls, keep following her career. It would be great to read updates on her. You know what i mean!
