Hi Bella,

Fun post! What do I think? Hmmmm . . . I am defintely not crazy about the "glamour" or swimwear aspect of it. Not crazy about the makeup and unsure with the fact that almost everyone has a weave. Although some of the weaves are not as bad. I'm assuming the judges judged beyond looks. . . The winner looks great. Making a decision just on what I see, which would be only looks, I would give it hands down to Ms.Crossriver. Her hair is clean and on point. Her makeup is okay, a bit much, like the others but her smile makes up for it. I do like the winner also. She'd be at least first runner up. Keep up the great work and it's nice to see all kinds of interesting personalities on your blog. I got a call today from a friend asking if I know a bloger by the name of Bella Naija , lol! Word is getting round. Do ya thang gurl!

I'm Second!!! I'm gering there!!

Okay, so Miss Anonymous will reveal herself when she comes first! (I'm sure you can guess who i am, *wink, wink*). What is up with the ladies of MBGN?! From the make-up to the hair (ahem, weaves!) horrible, the model shot were nice though. Miss Imo isn't bad actually; i wish her the best. Go on girl! Make Naija proud!

I think she's pretty; generally all pretty girls. Not loving the hair/makeup or styling but overall not bad. Thanks for the pictures.

LOL..I was actually about to say that Munachi Nwankwo was the preetist of the bunch and I thought she would win..but duh!!!! Didn’t realise that results were in and she actually won…

Nice choice sha..in terms of looks….but it would be nice to hear how she sounds…cos I remember going for the 2nd Miss Lux contest(the one Ifeoma Njoku-now Williams won)…the whole night eveyone had been routing for one particualr girl..that when it came down to the Q&A session this chic finished the crowd with her Igbotic accent(no offence to my Ibo peeps out there)…but damn that accent was just too much..even RMD who was the host couldn’t hold back his laughter.

Totally agree with Ladybrille on the weaves and makeup issue…but anyways wish Munachi all the best o…and who knows she can be another Agbani and bring the crown back home.

Nice one Bella!!!

Miss Lagos ROCKS! Can't believe she didn't win.

Not jumping in joy over any one of them actually...but i guess Miss Lagos, Miss Imo and Miss Plateau look OK. As for the rest of them ohh...... I will reserve my comments(but then again it could just be the bad make-up job).

Bella, you can't change the names and pics. after you publish. Ms. Delta was formerly Ms. Cross River! Okay, I'll go by her name just in case her title changes, again :) Ms. Karen Young is the MBGN on my list.

Ms. Lagos should have gotten 1s runner up, based on looks alone she beats the other runner up hands down!

And how the hell do Igbo chicks be Ms. Adamawa and I can't remember the other northern state. That's so retarded....

Chude! said...

lol@ladybrille saying 'the judges looked beyond looks' - shoot me, but actually I think they looked at anything but looks! This winner? Ah-ah-ah. Okay shut up Chude!

Would have been really cute if Miss Lagos had won; I hear she's hooked to Mr. Nigeria - wouldnt that have been lovely?!lol.

I like the way Tosin Dekalu is working the Lagos social circles these days - brilliant soul.

Uzo said...

she doesnt look good to me. and the other girls. i guess the days of Bianca Onoh and Regina Askia have passed. Mr Nigeria has a better chance internationally than these ladies

I just want to say that i visit this blog daily now and i want you to keep up the good work. We all appreciate being up to date with our Naija entertainment info. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Great job as usual, Bella! The make-up could've been much better on most of the girls, but I think they're pretty. I liked Miss Lagos a lot, she's very well-spoken.

To the commenters asking about Miss LaCasera: LaCasera is a drink - one of the sponsors of the event. Guess they are sponsoring the prize that the girl won.

Anonymous said...

huh. Are these the most beautiful girls in Nigeria? Th only girls that are cute were Ms. Imo, Ms. Plateau and Ms. Lagos. The others looked busted.

Nice...I don't mind bearing the name "Miss La Casera?" if it'll fetch me the cash.lol. Gosh did it come at a high price for her or what. Miss Imo is....actually they are all really beautiful!I was also drawn to Miss Plateau and Isabel(right after Ms. Plateau).Imo stands a chance(with emphasis) at Miss World,no guarantees though;there are indeed beautiful women at that level too.
As for you, I still have some beef for you....*wink*

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous 2:05am: are you refering to next year's MBGN?Ahah, slow down now, this year's winner hasn't fallen off the throne/stage has she?it's a yearly event and you don't know next year's participants until next year.I've heard funny questions but you get the ace this time around dear.

As your Blogville MBGN insider ;) Let me help some of you out.

On Ms. La Casera : The new fruit drink which happens to be my fave now needed a new face to represent their product. Rather than go through the hassle of doing a search they decided to be the sponsor of MBGN and do their search that way. Kinda like a team effort. Since we needed a sponsor it just made sense. Pretty much they have provided a job for one of the girls plus One million naira. If things are in her favor she might get an extended contract and they might be back next year to pick another Ms. La Casera.

On why Ms. Adamawa and fellow northern states are Igbo or missing: Well that's an easy one. There are some state governments that specifically asked not to be(and take offence if) included in these pageants because they are Sharia states. Those other states that are represented obviously did not have any indigenes that were selected therefore the girls have to be assigned to represent states. If Ms. Adamawa who may have originally been from Kwara had been in the top 5 she would visit both states.

On Selection process: This was very difficult and took an entire day. Indeed the girls are not judged only by their faces. They are judged by the way they speak, they are drilled on the spot in the presence of everybody so you have to be confident. There was a good mix of ladies and while it is kinda hard to show how intelligent you are in 5-10 minutes, sometimes that's all the opportunity some people get to dazzle decision makers. Then came the part where the judges had to scrutinize every scar, cellulite, poochy tummy, tribal mark etc etc so that she would have a chance to compete on the internatonal level (eg tribal marks won't fly on agbani's face sorta thing). Sadly there was one girl that was so beautiful but even though she scaled through the selection she could not continue because that was just not a winning situation. Then talk about the non existence of physical fitness, especially when they were in the bathing suits. After that the girls went through a 2 week camp. While all you saw on tv was ms. juliette checking their nails and teaching them how to walk and dance, what you didn't see were the chaperons and the pre-judging.

Anyways I am glad about the choice of Ms Imo, not only because she is from my home state(ha!) but because she looks WELL FED!!! Like a real nigerian girl with curves and flesh (because the complaints I heard was that she was thicker than normal mbgn's). I don't believe I am saying this but it is true, there are too many skinny and hungry looking girls walking around Nigeria (including myself)Haba! Anyways Good luck to Munachi.

why do they all have OYIBO hair?

Anonymous said...

Hello there,nice blog.
Just can't believe this is the same pageant that gave us Agbani and Chinenye. Those ladies are true beauties anywhere in the world.
I saw the "winners" of the MBGN 2007 on the tv the other day,and I was scandalised. How? What happened? And we want to send them to foreign competitions?
The goodwill Nigeria gained in int'l beauty pageants in 2001/2002 has been eroded completely. None of these girls will ever be favourites to win anything.
We need help! Don't Chinenye and/or Agbani have sisters? PLEASE EHNNN!

Hi Bella,

It was a wonderful contest. The best won the contest. But do you thing we will achieve something in the international world.I wish her all the best.

I've always follwed up the pageant and I'm sorry to say I'm very disappointed at the kind of girls that contested for this year's pageant. Are there no pretty in Nigeria anymore... word of advice for the coordinators of this pageant-if they are really looking for natural beauties with raw intelligence, they should go into the villages and groom up girls who really needs this opportunity to make a change in their basic environment.

IGBO GIRLS ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRLS PERIOD!!! No other girls in Naija ( Yoruba, Hausa, etc.) can even begin to compete and this is why they even rep. in non-igbo territories/states. Even tho i'm Yoruba, i must admit that Ms. Munachi is simply gorgeous as are many igbo gals i've seen. I'm def. backin her 100% and hope she wins Miss World like Agbani Darego won. Make she continue to make Naija proud ooooo! Maybe one day i go find beautiful igbo gal make she complete my world.

IGBO GIRLS ROCK, esp. those from the South South (Imo)...so heavenly...so sweet...REP NAIJA, U DESERVE IT!!
