Okay, now that i over my shock...lol..here is my two cents....Shade Okoya looks as stunning as ever in that black couture inspired gown....She gets my award for best dressed. Kenny St....looks aiight...but the dress looks like its not fitted properly on her...Tosin Dakelu looks stunning in that number and as per the first lady of Lagos..she looks fabulous, although i would've loved to see her in something other than native at such occasion.
Now on some straight up "gbeborun" tip....i didn't know Ladi and Banke Balogun where big-time celebrities in Naija o....I had the chance to meet the couple on a BA flight from London a while back and they seem quite down-to-earth...wouldn't have even suspected they were famous....(y'all know how naija folks always have thier nose in the air when the have a little money...lol...) Anywayz, Banke looks great...married life is definately treating her well.
As per the fashion show, i thought the designs were great....but a bit of a replica of what i have been seeing lately on the Nigerian fashion scene. Would love to see a bit more color, sass and creativity in the outfits.
Great post as usual Bella...keep up the good work. You are definately going places Babez!!!

Okay totally missed Derenle Edun....like seriously, what is up with that cat?????? He looks freaking deranged...is he gay or something????...if that is his idea of being different its so not working for me....seems like he's trying too hard...y'all need to help him out,...dude is in dire need of a make-over!

Its a great thing that Nigerians are now learning to appreciate the worthy folks out there. Anyway, good for them.

Oh fun...The pics are interesting. The City People Awards is actually one of the few that i guess has some repute. The Baloguns are not party people. They tend to keep a low profile but with ladi's position in the bank, he has to make the effort to go out but they are pretty private people. Banke looks good for a mommy as well...

My goodness those clothes by lanre dasilva ajayi are hideous or is it just me? Totally like eeeewww! Guess she has run out of steam already, pshaaawwww.

We need "fashion police" up in Gidi.

With that said, some of the outfits look amazing...

I actually liked the DaSilva designs, very now! Well, a few of them anyway:)

The chick with the same outfit at both events is abviously experiencing an episode of 'Ground-hog day'.
Why else would you do that to yourself?

Also, is it me, or did anyone notice the shoddy red carpet, with building materials and poles on the floor in the background. This is the problem with naija's...everything is all on the surface...no attention to detail. A bit like LDA's current collection by the looks of things. One of the models outfit (3rd picture with long blue dress)is almost popping. Perhaps it's her way of saying she caters to non size 0 models.

That said, most of the peeps look nice.
My 2 pence worth.!!

Nice pictures! Nice post once again, Bella.

Na wa o, Sade dey look faaabu as usual after 4 kids with baba. E be like say honeymoon don over for our Dare, his wife's alright. Abike Dabiri always impresses me right from her broadcasting days with her dressing. I'm not impressed at all with Doyin Abiola's dress, is dat top and skirt or dress sef? Don't like it from waist up, could've been better sha. And i think Denrele needs to go for to a rehab for his eccentric life o.

Anonymous said...

as usual, looks can be deceiving.

anyways if I were Wale tinubu I would never stand so close to Oboden, there has to be a way to not look so "midgety"

denrele needs a solid beating with koboko for thinking it was okay to go out in public like that, he looks a mess

sade okoya always gives me this village girl vibe sha, no matter how expensives her clothes look, she gives me "mgbeke" 24/7

jak said...

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. Ali Baba is looking very fresh these days. Oh my, Fashion Popo... I scrutinized the pics just in case it was two pics taken at the same event, but lie lie; the backgrounds tell the truth... Ouch!

Why do those Grecian ushers look like brokedown cele ppl???

Vera Ezimora said...

Ooo, those outfits!!!

Anonymous said...

Nice pictures.Does anyone have info on Funke Bucknor's wedding website if she has one?
That Derenle Edun needs a good talking to,his sense style is coming across as insane.

Anonymous said...

Is Denrele Edun a man or a woman sef? ah ah haba!
But I'm so out of the loop, most of these names...I've never heard of, oh well! fab outfits though.
And bella you are DEAD wrong on the fashion police!! but it's hella funny!

Nigerican said...

i CAN'T believe that last lady wore that outfit twice in 2 weeks "What was she thinking".Her outfit was cute too so it wasn't like anyone would forget it "especially" Nigerian folks aaahhhh.I'm so frustrated with her right now and i don't even know her .She should be locked up by the fashion police.

Anonymous said...

Oh I 4got to add....I think the grecian ushers had a mix up on where their services were needed.Oh co'mon they look out of place and,well.....grecian.

Take care.

I'm new to blog world and am certainly getting my feast of interesting blogs. Yours I must say is a daily filler.
About the events - Almost everyone looked on point. They certainly dressed up for the occasion. I don't know the who's who of Nigeria's celebrities, but most represented. Nice!!!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I also thought the Grecian theme didnt quite come off. I liked the idea - but the execution came off, like someone said, looking like a Cele gathering!

That having been said, the THISDAY Awards has set an INCREDIBLY new and high standard for organising events in Nigeria. There is thought, there is theme, there is content - and they started on time!!

Lol @ Toyin Zubair looking really upset. For those who know, he actually has plenty to be upset about!

Denrele ... poor, harmless Denrele: ah, the guys has been like this for ages! Give him a break e jooo o - I thot we should have gotten used to him by now!

And Bella I know how it feels - there's Thisday Awards, Vanguard Banking Awards, AMAA Awards, Hip Hop World Awards, The Future Awards, Nigeria Music Awards AND ANOTHER NIgeria Music Awards, Nigeria Movie Awards ... good thing or bad thing? Up to us to judge. City People Awards though has never pretended to be about substance; they've been honest to the fact that it's GLAMOUR! And they got it right again this time! (Well, apart from the tacky poles in the background.Lol)

How come nothing on the Hip Hop World Awards?

Oh and speaking of which, after a long hiatus, Funmi Iyanda is back blogging!! And she has pictures from that particular Award.

Now Bella, I'm hooked on your blog - and hate to be addicted to anything, so how did this happen?!!!

adumaadan - Blacktinkerbell said...

Bella, if you put out a weekly fashion mag, I'd buy. How come you managed to catch that later wearing the same outfit to two different events. Na wa o! You sef, you be senior paparazzi. All the people look really glam and even Denrele looks ok in a weird, odd ball kind of way.

Well done Bella! Great pics, even though I don't know half of the celebs in them! Love (most of) the outfits!

Hmm!!!...Bella my comment and a few from yesterday have mysteriously disappeared…I smell foul play o…anyways it's all good..

Chude could you please share what is making Toyin SUBAIR upset?..as u said "for those who know, he actually has plenty to be upset about."

Anonymous said...

This is nice post! I have always enjoyed your blog

The Grecian theme was a totally bad idea!. I mean the event coordinator or Director should be fired!
I didn't get the connection at all with the event. It was just out of place.

The fashion industry in Nigeria has really advanced and a contemporary or even an African theme could have made sense.

I was wondering why we couldnt post comments yesterday...nice pics saw em at purefoto

Best dressed IMHO for the City People awards

Banke B - simple yet stunning
Abike - elegant and chic
Mrs Freeze - lovely color combination
Betty I - she carries herself so wel. Lovely color, great design. Well fitting
Tosin D - lovely subtle color

Worst dressed
Kenny whatever - the bag looks like one of those that lancome gives away when you buy $40 perfumes, the dress is ill-fitting the shoes peeping out of the dress are white- where was the fashion popo

Sade O - like someone implied - that village girl effect. Too many frills, there is beauty in simplicity (she should look at Banke and Abike) her dress was too over the top and the jewellery she wore were awful. Call the fashion police it looks like she needs an attitude and fashion makeover. I don't know her but in the photos she seems to be looking like the world is on her shoulders. Who is she anyway?

Remi T - Did she not see what her mates were wearing, it is an awards ceremony not an owambe. Or is there a law saying that the guvnor's wife cannot wear a simple evening gown. haba.

Hey, don't hate that lady who wore the same dress twice. Haba! You think it is easy. With all these events. I think she may have been hoping to get away with it with no one noticing. I guess nobody told her about Bella Naija

I agree, the grecian cele pple were out of place and irrelevant...for something as high-profile as this event seems to have been - a nice Naija/African themed setting would have been nice. They look so awkward. When will Nigerians learn to be themselves. How annoying...whoever had that idea should be sacked and whoever signed off on it should be demoted.

Finally, unlike many of the others who commented, I was actually tickled to see that denrele gal/fella...different and unique. We need more of him/her around

some people are truly enjoying that naija sha, even though the country is imploding. I shall not comment on others dress sense or lack thereof

Hiya Bella,

I've been reading your blog for a while and absolutely love it, which was why i was a bit shocked at the pic of the girl who wore the same outfit twice. It seemed a bit mean spirited to put it on your blog.....it might have been funny when we were in sch but now, it just seems mean.

Also, this is the same reason why we Nigerians put such unnecessary pressure on ourselves and how we look as opposed to focusing on who we are. Always trying to impress the Jones (for those who don’t know they cease to exist).

Anyway, no offence intended I just think we should cut d girl some slack, there are so many parties in Lagos are we saying if u don’t have a new frock stay at home?

For those of you, who were offended by the girl even DARING to wear the same outfit twice, let try and be more sensitive in the future.

@NIGERIAN..well said.i think it was quite childish and mean to just put her business all up on the net like that.im very sure she is just a regular chick trying to just have some fun.not everybody is priviledged to have a closet full of clothes they can change outfits from for every event.
bella, some people have it really hard you know?
the poor girl might have worn her best of the best.
thats what she had,and who are you or anyone else to poke fun at her.
grow up.

@Everyone....THANKS for all your comments...
Wow this post was full of drama, wasnt it!
Its all good...

@anonymous 4:36 PM - I luv your comprehensive analysis

@Nigerian and anonymous - thanks for your honest comments...I didnt mean it in a meanspirited way, obviously all fingers are not equal but these were 2 very high profile events, invitation-only (the people invited to these things are celebs, high-profile business people and govt official - so lack of funds to change up an outfit is highly unlikely), press-covered events - a week apart ....
I appreciate your comments
and to be fair to her, I've taken the pics down.

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean Bella as per high profile and IV only (she should have known beta).... thanks for taking the pics down.

I didnt think you were intentionally being mean spirited...just that ur actions came across as such.

Its good to know u read and take all comments into consieration.

Still love the blog ;o)
