RUNDOWN - CITY PEOPLE AWARDS + GENEVIEVE MAG

Hey Y'all,
How are you doing? No one ever answers my 'how are you doing' questions..but I'll keep on asking!
My weekend was good actually....hung out with friends, went out and all that.
Its summer and as seems to be a pattern with me, I have some major decisions to make!
I pray it all works out.
Anyway, here is a Rundown.

Congrats to comedian, Basketmouth!
He held a joint celebration for his baby dedication (for his cute baby, Jason) and his house warming ceremony about a week ago. Family and friends including fellow comedians, actors and actresses were present at the event in Lekki where he dedicated his 2 new houses. Its so nice to see it paying off for someone who pursued their passion.

Interesting post - I was looking through the list of nominees and winners at City People Fashion & Style Awards and I noticed that there are categories for "Hair Product of the Year" and "Most Fashionable First Lady in Nigeria"

Are they really necessary??

Bella Naija said...

hey greene, i'm cool!

the most fashionable first lady threw me a bit but its nigeria and its a soft sell mag so i guess those categories fit in well with their audience.

Hi Bells!! I am doing okay o!!
Major decisions can be the scariest things in the world but make them you must. You will look back in a few months and smile at the mountain you conquered but those few months might be tough ones of adjustment.
Anyways. Alls good.

i have watched the video. pls, don't get me wrong, DJ jimmy jatt is a good dj; no doubt. i wld say that the quality of the video is ....... quite dark, i cldn't see a thing. ok. i wear glasses, cld that be it r it's just that the video could be worked upon.

the female singers and rappers have it going on - no doubt. and i wld also say that sthg is missing which i cant really put a finger or hand to. like their delivery is it like a street credibility type of thing, ehm...chick thugging, home girl flavour, ama aim for ur jugular kind of image...am nt sure what it is. can someone pls, help me out. help a sista. thanks.

their hairstyle is good..but..pls don't get me wrong am nt trying to downplay my naija sisters and their beautiful craft, it is just that sthg is clearly lacking & missing. can i hear an AMEN to that r am i being unfair? i dnt know it all: pls, help a sista out

I'm fine bella.

I'm so proud of our naija sisters. I think they did the girl in the red weave and dress wrong though. They could have given her a better wardrobe.

Na wah oh! All these awards self dey tire person...every month na another thing.... all sorts...all the awards get k leg, for example, which one be hairsalon of the year? dem don waka all the salons for the whole Nigeria? Why we like to dey fool ourselves for dis country? Nonsense!

As for that video, una try, but why all of una be like say una don craise for the video?

Anonymous said...

@ Waffarian. This is how citi people awards its awards hehehhe...

trrrrinnnnngggg, trrriiinggg (phone dey ring).

owner of phone who knows someone at citipeople: hello?
Citipeople reporter: hello, how you dey? Abeg, we're having our awards on sunday (mark you it's wednesday) and we have a category called blah blah. Who you know wey you think fit win dat category?

OPWKSC: Ah! Dat one hard me o! Na who you don choose for other categories?

CP: (runs through a list), lagbaja, women's designer of the year and...

OPWKSC: Ah! No o! Lagbaja no dey do cloth for woman o! Na only man hin dey do!

CP: You mean am?

OPWKSC: I dey yarn you true talk o!

CP: Okay then. Na who you tink fit win am?

OPWKSC: Tamedu fit do am na!

CP: Ok then. Tamedu go be the winner. The one wey i ask you nko?

OPWKSC: Na gorimapa go win dat one, no shaking!

CP: No! we go put am for list, but na boniface we wan make win.

OPWKSC: Na lie! Tufia! Gorimapa better pass am. You no know say she go school for london?

CP: True? Okay, gorimapa go win. Any other category we fit add?

They then 'brainstorm' and come up with every category known to mankind. You lucky say dem no find 'best dressed secretary to the personal assistant of the special adviser on road usage to the first lady of the year award'.

hahahahaha, lol @ anon7:15..... i cant stop laughing ..... ur drama seemed so real...hmmmnn maybe it is!

Anonymous said...

eny, it is real. Maybe slightly exaggerated but real. My sis has received one of such phone calls.

Anonymous said...

LOLLLLLLLL @ Anon!~

As for the rappers...i think that ther eis a misconception on what a lady rapper should be like.

And i guess thats why i love Kel. She is a lady and her lyrics are very on point.

I also like Bouqui very much.

Nice post Bella.

And i am not fine ooo...as per you are far far far. Not fair.

Bobby Tee

Anonymous said...

@ anon 10:31 its ok my sister! I've watched d video too not bad, about the darkness maybe that's d way its supposed to look, also I didn't think there was anything wrong.

At Bobby t, its cool to like someone and all that but the only misconception is that we all assume there's a standard that rappers should have period!how about actual content? I like Kel too but let's cut the hype what is she really saying on that track? Nothing profound but its nice so being a lady has become seperating from d norm? The chick wore a dress and so did kemistry!!keep it real.

And @ nobody in particular:
music is self expession and pple are different just because the rappers in the states have set a precedent does not mean anybody that is not like them falls short or is remarkably better, everybody is an individual so they are bound to express themselves differently!
its time as nigerians we realise the hardwork these pple put into their music, its a means to an end just like we all have jobs, not a new boy/girl in school trying to impress the 'in' crowd you either like it or you don't nobody gave anybody a score sheet! Appreciate or not and just move on!

this track is pure fiyah!!!
so blown away by their deliveries.
Now for the ranking:
1) Blaise ( completely murdered it)
2) Kemistry ( Luv the attitude)

3) Bouqui(nice lyrical content,not enough passion)

4) Sasha (need to step up her game)

Anonymous said...

I just forced myself to see this vid.Naija rap is not my thing and i have been away for 4 yrs so i really do not know much about the music scene. The 1st chick( i was not too sure about the "deep" lines) and Sasha did good, IMO, the Kemistry girl, i was not feeling her much, maybe the lyrics, the last chick, i barely heard what she was on about. All in all, entertaining. What i do not understand is why they sound like americans? Do you have to have an accent to rap?
All in all, they tried esp. with the collabo, females coming together. Girl power.
I do not get the Sasha bashing, but i guess if ppl do not bash you small, you are insignificant. Big up to dem girls.

Anonymous said...

@ED. I see what u mean regarding Sasha. Maybe it's erm..nervous energy. one suggestion is that when she is with the boys she can do some chick thugging and with the chicks become laid back. u know what am saying!

@Adaora. Thanks for the love. U're beautiful.

@Bella. Thanks for being patient

Anonymous said...

Lmao! All these sasha haters na wa oh! Like someone wrote above and I agree, if you are not bashed then you have to be significant, did it occur to you that maybe that was the part she was asked to play? Seeing as the other girls do need their own 15 mins?

About the accents abeg everybody sing irreplaceable with a nigerian accent.... Err! I thought so, its simply music no accents are involved after all when y'all were reciting nursery rhymes I'm sure you did it in the nigerian accent? Puh leese!!!

Get wit d program, if you can't give constructive criticism then keep ur opinions to urself, and for all the folks that feel so bad bout sash! If you really want progress holla at her or its got to be something else bothering you and it sure aint the rapping! Pshew

Anonymous said...

Oh anon 10:31 you're welcome and you're beautiful too lol!

Between ED and ENY, may the Lord renew your spirit and help you to get past negative thoughts towards other pple.

Thou shall not kill" doubt that means very much to you! Hmmm

Bella! Well done and sorry oh! It must be tough lol!

Sasha is good in her own way..the ball is in Sasha's court

This is really nice hearing all the latest from our beloved country 9ja. Thanks so much Bella for the hard work you put into this blog, I know how hard it is to maintain and update one regularly.

For the Video:
Though I am more of a conservative, and rap is not really my thing, I loved the video; it’s very well done and can compete. The first girl to appear, I believe she goes by the name, Blaise, had a good “front” and did an excellent job, it’s a good thing they let her go first. Nice video, good job girls - Blaise, Kemistry, Sasha and Bouqui.

right... so if people prefer other verses in song to sasha's, they automatically become sasha haters.

so it couldn't possibly be on merit because sasha is now even better than Jay Z abi. (pls give me a break)

I am a proper rap fan and I've loved this song even b4 it was remixed for the video, and in my opinion her verse was the weakest.
(pls I am a guy so no need to hate her... I actually think she's quite sexy)

Anonymous said...

Though sasha and blaise exuded the most confidence, all the ladies made me proud.

love the video and song

big up to jimmy.

big up to all these talented and brave women coming together. We need more of that.
