AUNTY BELLA - MISS CONFUSED

Hey Everyone!!!
What’s good? Hope your weekend went well.
Mine was really good! I went to the spa for a facial and a massage…blissful!
Plus one of my lil’ sisters was around so that was really cool.
Anyways, I know its usually a Thursday thing but I had to make an exception and bring Aunty Bella in on a Monday.
Hope y’all are ready to unleash the advice.

Dear Aunty Bella,

Hope your readers can help out.
My boyfriend (maybe its ex-boyfriend now) and have been dating for almost a year now. We met each other last year and were casual friends (as in hi, hello friends) until he started calling more often, started saying he fancied me etc…
I thought he was a really nice guy and everything but I refused to hang out with him or go on a date with him because of a variety of reasons.
The main reason being that at that point, I had already made plans to move away from Alaska* where we both lived. I also felt that bf and I were a bit of a mismatch because he is about 8 years older than me, he is very chilled out and takes a ‘lets see how each days goes’ approach to life while I am super ambitious and have a ‘lets take the bull by the horns’ approach to everything.
Anyways, I don’t know what happened because one day I woke up and started fancying Mr. BF, as in I totally just saw him in a different light. That was how the relationship started. I have to confess that Mr. bf is a perfect gentleman. As in, a dream boyfriend - Sweet, caring, affectionate, generous and everything. Really, really, no drama. Nigerian girls, you know how rare guys like this are. Just in case you have forgotten, go to figurella’s blog to refresh your memory!
So after some months, the time came for me to move away from Alaska. It was a really difficult time because I was scared that I was not making the right decision but I really hated Alaska and got a really great job in Lagos. Mr. bf actually asked me not to move but I said that I had to. We talked about the whole thing and agreed to continue long distance even though we are both ‘against’ long distance relationships. I also agreed that I would consider moving back to Alaska after a year but gave no guarantees.
That was how the issues just escalated, as soon as the whole long distance thing started; it got really difficult with the time difference and all that. Also, we both have very demanding jobs so many times we would want to talk but would be just too exhausted to do so. We started having more and more little arguments which ended up escalating to huge ones. Being that Mr. bf is a very chilled person, he hates fighting and is very non-confrontational so this put a huge strain on things. Anyways, mr. bf came to visit and the whole trip was going well until we had another huge fight and he ended up going back to Alaska quite upset.
From that point, it was as if something was just lost. Everytime we spoke, it just wasn’t the same feeling but from my side the reason for all the fighting was the whole moving thing. It just put me on the edge and made me pick on every other thing.
We talked and mr. bf asked why I hadn’t started making plans to move back to Alaska and I said I didn’t see myself moving back there anytime soon and he made it clear that he saw Alaska as his permanent base for the next 5 years at least.
As I said, mr. bf is 8 years older than me so is looking for a relationship that has a ‘clear future’, that is why he really wants to know if and when I will move back to Alaska. I on the other hand, could see a future with mr. bf but am not in a hurry and especially do not want to go back and live in Alaska (as in the place is very boring and cold)
So my question is what should I do?
Should we just let go of the relationship because we both don’t want to move?
Should we try to make it work? How can it work?
Ladies, would you leave your successful career in a place which you love to move to a city you dislike for your man?
I love Mr. bf and really don’t want to lose him (hmmm might have already…) but its like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, I want to be with bf. On the other hand, I feel this will mean letting go of a huge chunk of my aspirations and therefore will leave me bitter later.
Pleasssssssse help.

THISDAY STYLE: TWINS

I have absolutely nothing to blog about!!!
I am all blogged out LOL!
I take that back, I have stuff to blog about but I dont have the photos....
When will Nigeria get their own Getty Images or Wireimage! Sometimes, getting photos is as hard as pulling teeth...
Oh well, I saw this in ThisDay Style some months ago and thought it was cute.
They did a feature on twins including Toyin Hassan-Odukale and Tosin Adekoya; Muka Nwokedi & Nina Agwuna; Omomo Akpata & Odio Oseni.
I am soooo fascinated by twins.....I think I want to have twin girls when I have children...
Oh well, the photos were taken by TY Bello by the way.
Have a great day...hopefully tomorrow I'll be back with a bang.

TIFFANY AMBER - CRUISE CONTROL

At first glance, the collection from Tiffany Amber featured in this photo spread did not grab my attention but when I took a closer look, I started to appreciate the detailing, finishing and the excellent cuts.
Folake Folarin-Coker has a certain flair with her designs.
From her first collection at the Flamingo Restaurant years ago (does anyone remember that place?!) till today. You can see her consistent message.
Clean, flowy cuts that flatter women of varying shapes and body types.
I admire her consistency as well. The Nigerian fashion industry is soooo fickle! Hot today, gone tomorrow! But Folake has managed to buck that trend.
Love the concept of the spread as well. It was styled by Omoyemi Akerele.
What do you think?

BE INSPIRED BY TARA

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you would know how much I admire Tara Fela-Durotoye. I am constantly in awe whenever I hear about her latest ventures. Earlier this year, when she won the Future Awards, Young Person of the Year Award, I was in shock! Not because I thought she didn’t deserve it but because I was sooo impressed that at only 30, she has achieved so much.
I first heard about Tara about 10 years ago when I read an interview/feature on her in Remi Diagbare’s Fashion Flair column in Vanguard Newspaper and I’ve followed her progress since then (FYI I loveeeee Remi, I’ve been reading her column religiously forever! She totally deserves a bigger platform like a magazine!)
Anyways, Tara will be celebrating her 10th anniversary in the makeup industry on Sunday, 14th October 2007 with an event at the Muson Centre. The event billed for Shell Hall MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, will feature a mini-fashion show, courtesy Momo Coutoure, a cocktail party and the unveiling of a new fragrance line, Inspired.
The advertising campaign for the fragrance which was shot by Kelechi Amadi-Obi and TY Bello will feature various inspiring women.
Below are some pics highlighting the different facets of Tara’s budding cosmetics empire as well as one of the ads for the fragrance.

RUNDOWN: 2FACE + OLUCHI + AGBANI + BBA II

Hey Everyone,
How was your weekend?
Hope u had a great time...
I didnt do much this weekend, just went to get my hair done!
I made the decision to go 'weave-free' for the first time in a lonnnnng time like a month ago...I also cut my hair shorter and honestly I am loving it!
I also spent a lot of time reflecting, praying and planning for next steps in my life and business.
Anyways, enough about me - check out the rundown!

Tuface was attacked by armed robbers on Thursday, 4th October 2007.
Here is the eye witness account of what happened from Ifeanyi Orji, elder brother to Faze, who also doubles as his manager.

"It was at Cele Bus stop. We were in light traffic, ‘free styling’, a song he was writing, when I saw a couple of guys get down from the car next to us.‘Open the door!’ I heard the command from one of the assailants, and the blood froze in my veins! What was happening? I was rooted to my seat like a statue. The next thing I heard was boom! boom! The glass shattered. I thought I was dead! Then I heard Tuface’s voice calling "Odogwu, move! Get out of the car!" I don’t know how I did it. I just saw myself running and stumbling and running."Suddenly I discovered that he was behind me, panting, asking, ‘’are you okay!’ Despite his wounds, he was still asking about my state. I reached out to support him as we staggered on. It was like watching a James Bond movie but in this case, we were the actors! "They would later be rescued by a van carrying pure water and taken to Cedar Hospital in Festac Town, where they were all admitted.
- See the rest of the story HERE

Anyways, contrary to some reports, 2Face is in high spirits and the injury is not life threatening. Senate President, Senator David Mark who is the senator of 2Face’s district in Benue State has offered to sponsor 2Face treatment abroad if need be.
Prayers and well wishes to him.

Plus, her studio at Jade Jagger’s eponymous condo in the Flatiron will rent for around $3,250 a month.

If you haven’t been keeping track of BBA, you have missed a lot!
So much has happened and I can’t possibly get you up to speed with everything BUT I can give you a summary of all the romance! Sooooo much drama!
For info on all the contestants, check out my 1st BBA II post - HERE

Couple 1
Richard (Tanzania) & Tatiana (Angola) aka Richiana
This is the hottest and most scandalous Big Brother Africa II couple. Why? Well, apart from their incessant shared showers, kisses, massages, dancing etc….
The reason why this relationship is sooo controversial is because Richard is MARRIED.
24-Year old Richard is married to an older lady named Ricki who is originally from Canada and was declaring his love for his wife, left, right and centre when he first arrived in the BBA house but all that has changed now that he is involved with Tatiana. Richard claims he feels guilty about he and Tatiana's relationship and sometimes kisses his wife photo (as if that makes up for his activities!!). Anyways, check out photos of the couple in action below.

Richard with his wife before BBA

Couple 2
Lerato (South Africa) & Max (Zambia)
Max was engaged when you entered the BBA II house, by the time he was evicted, his fiancé had dumped him! Why? Well, Max and Lerato (the L'Enfant terrible of the series) started a relationship in the house. Their relationship was supposedly consummated when they spent several days alone in the ‘penthouse’. They have both been evicted and have been spotted together outside the house.

Couple 3/4
Kweku (Ghana) & Meryl(Namibia)/Bertha (Zimbabwe)
Kweku was ‘dating’ Meryl before she was evicted, at that point he moved to Bertha. Wow…how sensitive! Bertha was evicted on Sunday.

Couple 5
Code (Malawi) & Maureen (Uganda)
She pursued him, she cried, she begged. Now they 'seem' in love, always waxing philosophical to each other. but when he is talking to the boys, Code makes it clear that the relationship has no future. Maureen has a boyfriend in 'real life' while Code has a girlfriend too.
____________________________________________________

That's it for today!
So what do you think about the BBA II romances, Oluchi's real estate biz, Agbani's vids and be sure to send your well wishes to 2Face.

Ciao!

OMAWUMI IN TRUE LOVE + BN PROSE

Hey!!!!!!!!
Hope your week is going well!
I'm just here, working as usual!
I am going on a local trip for work until the weekend....I'm sure there'll be internet access in the hotel tho.
Ohhhh that reminds me....I had a really really fab time this past weekend....pls remind me to gist u guys about it on friday..
Anyways, lets get to it!

Not much has been heard from Omawumi since she clinched the runner-up spot on Idols WA some months ago. I know the Idols WA Top 10 has been on a Celtel sponsored nationwide tour. Omawumi's 1st single, 'You Got Me' didnt set the radio on fire so I really hope she has some better material in the works....Anyways, here is a True Love Feature on her. Love the yellow Movada dress!

Do you think Omawumi has a chance at musical stardom or was it just a reality tv '15 mins of fame' type of deal?

Your phone is ringing, it’s Simi…again!
She has called you 3 times tonight and you haven’t picked up your phone.
I know what she is going to say….
You finally resign to your fate and pick up the phone
‘Hey luv, why have you been ignoring my calls?’
‘Nooooo I haven’t, I was taking a nap’
‘Whatever, you know today is Seun’s birthday, you have to come pleaaaaaaaaase!’
This Simi girl is just something else; I really don’t know how she does it!
She works 100 hours a week as an investment banker at IBTC Chartered, she runs her accessories label, she has a fiancé, yet she has the time and energy to attend every party!
‘You know that I am sick of all these Lagos things, it’s always the same people, in the same places – I am not going!’
‘Honestly darling, its going to be fun, as in, this is a very different crowd, it’s a private party so none of the usual suspects you see out every day….I’ll even come and pick you up, I’m on my way now!’
Ok, you’ll go but this is the last time.
Seriously.
It’s just a waste of time really, the same guys who all have girlfriends that everyone knows about, yet they have the audacity to chat you up and deny their girlfriend!
The same girlfriend that is tagged as ‘in a relationship with’ on their facebook!
Later, someone will say that you are having something with XYZ’s boyfriend, just because they saw both of you talking…..arghhhh, its so annoying.
Can’t even be bothered to dress up, put on the blue high-waist jeans and a tee shirt then some makeup and pull your hair out of the ponytail and brush it. You are good to go!
Simi just sent a text, she is already at the gate
You text back - ‘Simi, aren’t you going to come in?’
‘No, we are already late’
You step into the car, its freezing, maybe you should have brought your pashmina, Simi always blasts the air conditioner as if she is trying to recreate an Alaskan winter!
Olu Maintain’s Yahooze is blasting from the radio…..
Oh oh yahoo, oh oh yahoo, Yahooooze, yahooze….
You are both singing at the top of your lungs!
The song is sooo overplayed but you still love it!
Hmmm ok, you are in a better mood now….
You get to Awolowo Road, police check point as usual
They flag the car down
Don’t these police men have anything better to do?
The driver pulls down his window
‘Oga, oya park your car there!’
Simi pokes her head out of the window
All the policemen exclaim!
‘Ahh ah Aunty, we didn’t know it was you oooo….
Thanks for last time…
Aunty you are looking pretty oooo….
Very fine sista…..
Make sure you enjoy yaself….
Goodnight ma….’
Now you are laughing!!
‘Simi, this babe you are gangsta, I hope you know you go out wayyyy too much, even the policemen know’
The driver parks in front of 6degrees, you look around for other cars, not as rowdy as usual, hmmm - good sign.
There are 2 people ahead of you guys, the bouncer turns them away, it’s a private party he says - that’s another good sign.
At least you won’t be fighting for oxygen and standing space in there.
You guys get in straight away.
Of course, Simi knows the bouncer, she even asked about his newborn baby and he thanked her for the baby present she sent to his house last week
You shake your head; you don’t know how she does it!
You guys get inside; you look around, all the familiar faces…
Do some people live here?
For real, they seem to be permanent residents of the lounge
Air kisses follow
‘Hello darling…’
‘Long time…’
‘You’ve cut your hair…’
‘How was Dubai…?’
‘I’ve missed you….’
Blah Blah Blah!....it’s all a blur now
You are just looking for a place to sit down.
Simi has already disappeared as usual, she has gone to say hello to her fiancé and his friends
You’ve found a seat and you are sipping your water…
No alcohol tonight, you have an early meeting tomorrow so there is no point
The DJ is not bad,
You are actually feeling the music
Umbrella ella ella ella eh eh eh eh

You feel someone staring at you
You look around, can’t spot anyone
Hmmm ok
Back to your water
and the music…
Suddenly, you spot him
He’s the one that has been staring at you
You can’t help but look
This dude is fine
Wooooot!
Fine….
You mean…gorgeous!
You have never seen him before
You avert your eyes but they seem to drift back to him
He is staring right back at you
Now, this is scary
You are getting goosebumps…
It must be the AC
You must be cold….
It can’t possibly be his gaze…
Right?
It’s obvious he’s just come in from work, he is wearing a suit
Charcoal grey suit
Blue Shirt
No tie
The suit must be bespoke because it fits him perfectly
He is moving
What?
He is walking towards you
Should I run away, you think…
Hhaha, you must be joker, run to where exactly?
He is getting closer and closer
Now that he is even closer, he is starting to look familiar
Do you know him?
You are racking your brain
Nothing comes through…
You are thinking hard….
Suddenly you’ve got it
Oh yes, the August edition of True Love West Africa
The Man of the Moment section.
You close your eyes; you are trying to picture the page…
The details come tumbling in
28, Thriving Media Entrepreneur, Wharton MBA, Single, Just recognized as one of the ‘Young Leaders’ at Davos
Also founded a non-profit for cervical cancer
Now you remember…
That is the reason you read the article
You were intrigued by the idea of a man founding a charity for cervical cancer
The photo in the mag did him no justice!
You open your eyes
Ohhh S**t
He is right in front of you.
He is even more gorgeous than you imagined plus he is tall, very tall
Wow, this is soo exciting!
But you are so embarrassed for staring so blatantly
He smells so good though
You recognize the fragrance - Terre D'Hermés
Love it!
His face is directly in front of yours
Any slight movement and you will be lip to lip
You can barely breathe
You say a silent prayer
- Please God, let him not have bad breath
Lawl, typical of you, as if God does not have better things to do than make sure some guy you met in a club doesn’t have bad breath
It’s worth a try anyway
It’s as if everything is in slow motion
He opens his mouth…
You catch a whiff of his breath….minty fresh!
Thank the Lord!!!
He says your name…
Umm….how does he know my name???
I know I am jumping the gun but I can imagine the wedding day
Hahhah….I haven’t even spoken to the dude and I am already planning our wedding
He begins to speak

‘ello there, ow ha you doin’ prerry girl?’
‘hi ope you don’t mind me talking to ya’
‘hi ave been wanting to merrt you for ha long time, that is why hi hasked Simisola to bring ya tonight’

You cannot bring yourself to speak
You don’t know whether to laugh or cry
You know you are being shallow but….
You are having a hard time deciphering the accent or should you say ‘hhhaccent’
The dreaded ‘h-factor’…
What to do, what to do….

______________________________________________________________
LOL….What would you do?
But on a more serious note, why is it that we say ‘ohhh the guy/girl has a sexy French/British/Spanish/Italian accent’ but we never say he/she has a sexy Yoruba/Ibo/Calabar accent? we need a revolution! we must celebrate ours!!

Have a fab day….Ciao

Before I continue, just wanted to say a huge THANK U to everyone who emailed and ‘facebooked’ me, I really appreciate it! MUAH!
Let’s just get straight into it really….

I have blogged about TY Bello before but that post was focused on her photography - HERE
TY is just phenomenal…
Whenever I see her photographs, I am just in awe and now that I have heard tracks from her new album, I am sooooo impressed.
I read her in-depth interview with Genevieve Mag (See Below) and it was one of the reasons why I decided to continue blogging.
Women like her just NEED to be celebrated!
I love her new album, Greenland. My fav track is Funmise. Luv it!
You can listen to snippets from the album on her website - HERE
Also check out her video for Greenland below.
It features Joke Silva, Deola Sagoe, Funmi Iyanda, Ifeoma Williams, Charles O'Tudor, Betty Irabor, Nkiru Olumide-Ojo, Ireti Doyle, and many others….
Nyemoni also did an excellent feature on Greenland - HERE

That’s it for today…
There is sooooo much more to come in the next couple weeks so come back to visit!
Ciao
