BE INSPIRED BY TARA

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you would know how much I admire Tara Fela-Durotoye. I am constantly in awe whenever I hear about her latest ventures. Earlier this year, when she won the Future Awards, Young Person of the Year Award, I was in shock! Not because I thought she didn’t deserve it but because I was sooo impressed that at only 30, she has achieved so much.
I first heard about Tara about 10 years ago when I read an interview/feature on her in Remi Diagbare’s Fashion Flair column in Vanguard Newspaper and I’ve followed her progress since then (FYI I loveeeee Remi, I’ve been reading her column religiously forever! She totally deserves a bigger platform like a magazine!)
Anyways, Tara will be celebrating her 10th anniversary in the makeup industry on Sunday, 14th October 2007 with an event at the Muson Centre. The event billed for Shell Hall MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, will feature a mini-fashion show, courtesy Momo Coutoure, a cocktail party and the unveiling of a new fragrance line, Inspired.
The advertising campaign for the fragrance which was shot by Kelechi Amadi-Obi and TY Bello will feature various inspiring women.
Below are some pics highlighting the different facets of Tara’s budding cosmetics empire as well as one of the ads for the fragrance.

Hi Bella,

I have heard of this lady and applaud her work. I have never used her products but when I am in Naija I will definitely check it out!

A BIG issue I have is how some of us Naijas continue to use other people's image/work in a way that suggest it is our own to advertise or sell our products. I speak of the SAM FINE photo, picture # 5 right underneath the brushes. I know for a fact that that is SAM Fine's work. He used that face on the cover of his famous book "Fine Face." Having that face and work presented as work of 'House of Tara' is misleading and false advertising. I really don't like it when we do that because it undermines our hard work and credibility. I have never met her but she should definitely correct that glaring error and instead have a face she did reflected on her store front. I'm happy she is very enterprising and has ventured into a fragrance line. I think this is the first fragrance line I have ever heard of from Naija. Curious as to what it smells like.

Yup @ladybrille.. that picture in question is definitely from Sam Fine's first book Fine Beauty...
I wonder what blogville would think if there were to be a poll of who does better makeup.. Banke or Tara... Tara's makeup (esp bridal) is a tad too flamboyant for my personality

I cannot wait to see her on that celebrity dancing show

Tara did my sister's wedding makeup and she looked so beautiful. The gele tying was also on point. She is also very humble and her girls did a great job on the bridal train.

as much as i admire tara for being a trend setter and pace setter, i dont like her make-up. Not the cosmetics o, cos i really havent used them but the make-overs she & her students do on people. I'm yet to see one that i like, i prefer banke meshida all the way!

Tara is definitely an inspiration - she knew what she wanted at a young age and went for it regardless of the many challenges. I love that she is putting out a fragrance - she is always doing stuff that's new and different. Kudos to her.

Wow! I was at the perfume launch and it was great. Young women are really working hard. The perfume is great. It has a fantastic musky smell very sexy and i know it will do well. The fashionistas and lagos big girls were on display as always. ifeoma Williams was the Mc. Odio Mimonet was the designer of the day for the show and her clothes were on point as always. (Bella we need to see pictures) Yemi Akerele, the fashion editor of True Love magazine was back stage as usual doing her thing. Tara's dress was beautiful. BELLA YOU HAVE TO TELL US WHERE IT CAME FROM. IT WAS HOT! HOT! HOT! The designers' clothes looked different. A bit mature i think but definitely a very original and creative person unlike some others ....................... I can go on and on because i am truly INSPIRED. I have always wanted to write poems maybe i can do that now after the inspirational event. Ten years is no joke please dont start hating oh! people

can i ask what is this new thing in naija of women adding their hubby's first name to their married surname? is it an ego thing or what? eg fela-durotoye, folarin-coker, etc...

who else will make TARA's DRESS if not the designer of the day Odio Mimonet. Yes outfit is really beautiful and Odio Oseni has talent
