DRAGONS' DEN NIGERIA

Hi Everyone!
How r u guys doing? Sorry for the break in transmission. Slow internet service is a real downer!!
Anyway, what have you been up to?
I have been enjoying my holiday.
My birthday was this weekend!!! Feel free to leave some birthday prayers in the comment section. Much appreciated. Had a fab time anyway.

I watched the first episode of Dragons' Den Nigeria this weekend. I was really impressed.
Dragon's Den is an entrepreneurial reality show which allows budding entrepreneurs with the opportunity to present their business ideas to 'Dragons' - established business titans who then have the option of investing in their companies. Each player pitches a business scheme, telling us how much they need to float the business. The Dragons can invest as much or as little as they like in return for...an agreed percentage of the business.

Each Dragon can pledge as much money as they like, or nothing at all. But players have to raise ALL the cash they ask for. If an idea need 1,000,000 Naira and the Dragons offer a total of 750,000k, the player leaves empty handed.
The show has had successful runs in various markets including the UK and Canada.

Check out some details below.
You can watch the show on Saturdays & Sundays.
Saturday on Channels 1-2PM
Sunday on AIT 9.30-10.30PM

SATURDAY INTERVIEWS - Liz Benson

Hi! Hope your weekend is going well. Below is an interview with Nollywood veteren, Liz Benson. Its from the Daily Independent Newspaper.
I respect Liz, she looks stunning, its hard to believe she has 3 teenage children...check on it!
______________________________________What would Nollywood be without a certain Liz Benson?
She is not only an A-list actress, she is also beautiful with little signs of having three grown up children. Liz is now spreading the word of God as a minister in the vineyard. For her, that is priority over Nollywood, and everything else. As a matter of fact, when ASSISTANT EDITOR, Jude Nwauzor, met her in Calabar, Cross River State recently, she tried everything possible to avoid the interview, insisted it was better to share the word of God. Once portrayed as a wanton seductress and gold digger, but we met a sober, matronly actress on a different missionary journey.

Have you finally signed out of the movie industry?
God forbid bad thing. I have not.

So, where are you based at the moment because you are definitely not in Lagos, which is the capital of Nollywood?
I would not be able to disclose that. What I would tell you is that when Paul in the Bible was called, he moved around a lot and I'm moving around a lot now and God has not told me to slow down or settle in one particular place. God would be the one to tell me where to be exactly. For now I'm taking the gospel around and anywhere my suitcase lands that is where I would be.

Tell me how did the Lord arrest you for this new role?
It's a long story, which would take a long time to recall.
I have all the time in the world to listen to it.
I want people to know that the Bible tells us that the harvest is plenty but the labourers are few. Even when you look now there are so many churches and all that, but I still believe there is a lot that still needs to be done. God is in a state right now of using whosoever comes forward. I just wanted to be a child who wants to do what would please her father and I found that God turned it all around for my own good because I think it is a wonderful privilege to be able to serve God. Right now I go everywhere; mechanic workshops, motor parks, among other such places to share the word of God because the gospel is meant to be the love of God. It is a privilege to be able to speak about the Cross. I did not call myself; I did not go to a Bible school so I couldn't have called myself. But I believe that just as God opened my eyes to the truth that has always been with me, which is the word of God, I believe that God can open that of others to see what I have seen. Let it not come as a surprise that I'm into spreading the gospel because sometimes I amaze even myself but it is not by my grace. It is by the grace of the Almighty Father and so as many as would submit to God, he would use because God can use anybody or anything. I used to think the same way when I saw bishops and other men of God, I used to believe that God created them to come and work in the vineyard of the Lord. But I have since come to realise that God can turn anybody into a tool for the gospel. Years back, if somebody had told me that I would become a fulltime pastor, it would have been natural to believe that that person did not know what he or she was talking about. But then, there is even more joy and enjoyment in the presence of God. It is not something that I willed but it was the will of God that prevailed upon my life so I'm most thankful.

During the church service to mark the eighth anniversary of Mountain Dew in Calabar recently, I watched you preach and even lead praise and worship, I never knew you could sing. Oh! my God. The word of God says that we should worship God in the beauty of His holiness and you cannot be a true worshipper without having something to say to Him. It could come out in form of songs and the Holy Spirit helps you to present at the table of the Almighty. So, in every form of worship, even for those of us who do not take up the microphone professionally as musicians, we find ourselves being drafted into it. But it's all by the grace of God. It is the Holy Spirit that helps you achieve that. I did not really preach at that service but what happened was that I shared my testimonies and had few minutes of exaltations challenging my brothers and sisters in the church to take up the Armour of God. But I think I still need to go for voice training so that it would all be to His glory.

How big do you want to make your ministry?
It is not about me making it this big or that big. People should understand that God is the owner of everything so it is impossible for you to limit yourself or say I want it this big or this small. Do you know that so many preachers have had cause to say, 'I wish God would take this away from me and let others do it?' But it is impossible because when God sends you on that errand, honestly you have to pray for the grace to be able to obey. So for the ministry and me it is God that would determine how big or how small it would be. When I got into the movie industry I did not set any target for myself but knowingly or unknowingly, all I needed was a medium to be able to express what was inside of me. I believe God has deposited in me concerning his work and that is why my attention for now is to make people understand the love of God, I want people to understand the message in I Corinthians 1: 18 that the preaching of the Cross to those who are perishing is foolishness, but to those who are saved, it is the power of God. So I want people to understand the power of God to be able to share in the love of Jesus Christ, and the love of God. Like my spiritual father, Dr. Immah Isong shared the seven keys to life with the congregation during the eighth anniversary of Morning Dew, a monthly revival service of the Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI). Those keys are very important because they are life. I tell people that it takes the grace of God to be able to give out what God has given to you. It is that kind of spirit that we need to share the grace of God. So I cannot say this is where I want the ministry to be in so, so and so years. I just wish to serve God in the best possible means. I want God to use me and use me thoroughly. Let me be a sign to this generation, I want to be a contributing factor to drawing people back into the kingdom of God. That, for now, is what I can call my goal. I want to be driven by that.

I know your story as Liz Benson, the celebrated Nollywood personality, mother of three and so many others. But I don't know what made you decide that it was going to be God's work you want to do henceforth.
It may sound strange, but I would want to say that for some of us it has been there. I grew up in a Christian home and I think I belong to the third generation in my family that is serving God. My elder sister is a reverend pastor though she resides outside the country. My late father was a founding member of one of the Christian churches in Lagos; my grand fathers (maternal and paternal)were both founding members and elders of the Presbyterian and Qua Iboe church respectively. I grew up in the way of the Lord. And like the Bible said, 'bring up a child in the way of the Lord and when he grows up he would never depart from it.' I grew up with the word of God but I got into the movie industry. But because strong Christian attitudes have been instilled in you early in life and as a child, it draws you back to God. That was why after a while; I gave my life to God in 1996 as a form of saying thank you God because I had gone through an experience where I lost my husband at a very young age, and I was with three children. God made me understand He was the one keeping me but I had always known God. So in spite of my partying, and whatever I did, I knew that I had no other person than God. So, my giving my life to God was to say thank you; though He took my husband He remained the husband of the widow. He was father to my children, which was why I gave up my life to serve him. I did it honestly as a form of gratitude. I had a tanker accident that nearly consumed my life, experienced series of terrible robberies among others. I guess God wanted to draw me back to him. Every time I escaped from these problems, I usually asked God why me? For example, during the tanker accident where over 200 people died, I survived. I asked questions and got answered from the Bible and each time I read the bible I would cry. So, I asked God what He wanted me to do. But He was guiding me towards a particular line, which was why with every step I was getting closer to the word. At the time I gave myself to God, it was difficult to come out and say it openly. It is not like today when it almost like a cliche to say 'I'm born again.' Then people would resent you. So, it was a problem then because as far back as that I would tell them on set that I was born again and because of that I couldn't do this or that but people would not take it serious, they would think it a joke. When it continued that way, I decided to keep it to myself and worship God in private, you know. But the time came when I decided to take some time off completely.

You were reported to have gone to live in Ghana. Was that correct?
No, I didn't go to live in Ghana. I put myself away to be able to grow my spiritual life and develop my affinity with God.

I had to come out in the open about my new relationship and that has been it for me, and I tell you, it has been wonderful. The word of God is so strong, which is why it says, 'I have not given you the spirit of fear.' So, I can come out and proclaim the word of God. He sent me to the movie industry for a purpose, and he is using me in the gospel ministry to be able to stand out and preach the word.

When you see Liz Benson preaching, you should know that it is not by my own power, but that it is by the spirit of God that I stand out to speak. I did not create myself and I believe I'm one of those 'foolish' things God is using to confirm the wise. It has been a long journey. I tell you, being born again is just one step; it is when you experience the conviction that I would tell you, welcome to the kingdom. I say this because without that conviction it is difficult to understand and that conviction leads one to a level of intimacy that when you are not in it, you would know you are missing something. Intimacy with the Holy Spirit is wonderful and beautiful.

Where are your children and what are are they doing?
The two girls are in school in the UK but the other one, the boy just got into school in Yola (Adamawa State).

Why didn't you re-marry when you lost your husband just six years after your marriage?
I had never really looked at it in the past because my late husband and the father to my children was a wonderful man. Even though we had very short time together, he was wonderful to me and to the kids. I have had most of my friends accuse me that I always put everyman that comes to me on the scale of my late husband but I don't think that is the case. The thing is I'm one person who believes that marriage should be without an end, I do not believe in divorce and all that. The man I was married to would love to see his kids doing well. If he were around he would want to give the kids the very best. My husband was an 'A' class person and because he was no more around and because he had very, very great love for me, I decided to transfer that love to my children and that did not allow me to see myself being married to someone else. The attention was all on my children. So, those kids were my direct responsibility since my husband died, I had to abandon every other thing to take very good care of them. That was one very important thing that kept me away from a second marriage because I think of them first even before myself. It was not that proposals were not coming. When the two got into the university I thought about getting married, but life is not all about that. But I have told God that whatever He desires is what must be done. Whenever it is God's time I would see the man who would say, 'Liz, I want to marry you.' I would then go to my father to seek His consent. I would not allow my flesh to take control of me. I know nobody is perfect, which is why God accepts us the way we are. When we wake up in the morning with a smelly mouth, we kneel down to praise God; he accepts our prayers irrespective of the smelly mouth. In the same way, I'm not perfect just like no one is, so I would pray to God that when he gives me someone, it would be someone that I can cope with, someone I can adjust to, someone that we can strike a balance, someone that would be able to take my inadequacies and I would take his to enable us make something out of this beautiful life God has given us. Life is too short to begin to waste it on things that don't really matter. So I look out for the best from God.

There is this belief that since your peers in Nollywood left, the movie industry dropped to all time low.
I would not want to use the word drop. I think it's a kind of restructuring that is going on in the industry. And as you know when there is restructuring a lot of things have to be cleared up. Even for nations at times you experience war, after the war there would be time to clear things up. After that comes the rebuilding, which makes the nation stronger and better. I think Nollywood is in that situation right now, a kind of recess, which I know we would pull through. Other countries have had teething problems and of course they are not to be measured with where we are right now because they started decades back. But then, we are meant to encounter problems. I believe we would overcome these problems because it's most necessary we have the recess because it would make Nollywood better.

THISDAY FESTIVAL 2008 'AFRICA RISING'

Hi Everyone!!!
How was your weekend? Mine was just….I have no words!
Anyway, I attended the 3rd edition of the ThisDay Music Festival last night/this morning. The ‘Africa Rising’ Event actually kicked off in Abuja last week when Naomi Campbell and some other celebrities planted tree in Nigeria’s Capital - Abuja. On Friday, 11th July 2008, the musical concert in Abuja took place with performances from Jay-Z, Usher, Rihanna along with local artistes including up and coming rapper, MI.

I didn’t attend the Abuja show but here are some tidbits and pics. I heard the music show went well although it started really late as well. Usher did an amazing job, the ladies were screaming. Jay-Z killed it as always. He and Rihanna performed 'Umbrella' together. They have done this only a very few times live in the past. All the guys were drooling over Rihanna, apparently she is the 'freshest' lady ever. Even one of my female friends who met her said her skin is like butter. WOW. Skin like butter + Chris Brown as a boyfriend....do we need more reasons to hate her? lol.
The fashion show in Abuja was unfortunately cancelled and Naomi & Tyson didn't attend the fashion show in Lagos

ABUJA + LAGOS PRE-EVENT
Naomi planted trees in Abuja and visited an orphanage along with Tyson Beckford in Lagos

Usher, Jay-Z & Rihanna performed

Ozwald & Oluchi were there looking fab!

Portraits - Taken in Lagos

LAGOS
So I couldn’t decide if I should go for the Lagos show or not cause I was sooo exhausted on Sunday but I dragged myself out of bed anyway. The venue was the Lagos Polo Club, ThisDay setup a dome for the event. People who paid 5,000/10,000naira were seated outside the dome with a large projector screen to watch. Inside the dome, VIP (50,000) were placed at the end of the runway while Golden Circle (60,000) were infront of the stage/around the runway. The sponsors - Diamond Bank, Access Bank & GTBank all had elavated hospitality suites so they had a good view as well. 'All Access' pass holders watched the show from the stage and backstage. It was mainly Nduka's kids and their friends, the ThisDay Staff, designers, models, photographers, crew etc...rather random bunch actually.

Anyway, the show was supposed to start by 6PM and surprise, surprise….It started almost 4 hours late….about 3 hours and 40 minutes late to be exact.

Started – 9.40PM

The crowd was a mix, many of the usual suspects that you see at every Lagos event but the crowd was dominated by teenagers!!!!! I guess with Chris Brown on the bill, that was to be expected. I have to admit that the new generation of Nigerians are incredibly stylish. These teenage girls and boys are not playin’, they express themselves very well with their style.
Anyway, I picked my spot right by the stage and I had an amazing view of everything!
The host of the show was veteran media personality, Olisa Adibua. He gave a brief introduction to hype up the crowd then comedian Basketmouth joined him on stage to ‘crack’ a few jokes. Soon after, Mary J Blige, the Queen of RnB arrived on stage. She was rockin a denim jumpsuit with grey boots and her signature blonde weave. My first observation was that Mary is fit! She has an amazing body and obviously works out. I also spotted her husband Kendu chillin at the side of the stage.
She started off with her old hits from the ‘What’s the 411’ album and took things from there! I have to admit Mary is an AMAZING performer! Energetic, passionate, fun, vocally on point! I was thoroughly impressed. For all the women in the audience, she had so many positive messages about loving yourself, being confident and all that. I felt her! By the time she began crooning her more recent hits including ‘No More Drama’ and my personal fav ‘Be Without U’, the crowd was eating out of the palm of her hand. Singing along, dancing, clapping! It was a great atmosphere. She closed off her set with her most recent hit ‘Just Fine’.

After Mary’s performance, Basketmouth and Olisa come back on stage. Basketmouth cracked the crowd up with his jokes. He was laid back and funny! While he was performing, the stage was being worked on for the next act so it was kinda distracting. Basket was on stage for a while….he decided to invite some entertainers in the crowd to join him. Ikechukwu did a freestyle version of his hit ‘Wind Am Well’. Wande Coal and D’Banj also cruised the stage for a lil’ while and dropped a few snippets. Don Jazzy, 2Face Idibia and Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha were at the event.
Next up was Chris Brown and to say the crowd went crazy would be a serious understatement. They were DELIRIOUS! But what’s to be expected with over a thousand teenage girls.
I have to admit that Chris is fine! Yes, I am like 5 years older than him but seeing him do his thing on stage was impressive. He killed it! He started with his hit ‘Wall to Wall’ and just took things from there. He, his dancers and his fine DJ…..worked perfectly together. The dance moves were well synchronised, the banter between him and the DJ was slick. When Chris took off his shirt, the crowd went crazy again! Overall, it was just an amazing performance! Even the oldies in the crowd were thoroughly impressed especially when he performed his ballads ‘No Air’ and ‘With You’. At the end of his performance, one of his crew threw his beanie hat into the crowd…it landed in my hands....then ricocheted to the 2 teen girls next to me. They then proceeded to wrangle over it for some minutes. The strongest won LOL.

After Chris, there was nothing for about an hour. The crew was setting up the stage….Logistics! Forever the bane of Nigerian events. I wonder when it will change.

Up next, Joey Crack…Fat Joe. Dude might be fat but it didn’t affect his energy levels. I looked into his eyes and he had a steely stare. He was in the ZONE. He and his crew kept the crowd entertained with hits including ‘New York’ and ‘Lean Back’ when he performed ‘Make It Rain’ some decided to spray some naira notes…There was also a fashion show featuring designs from New York based Lola Faturoti during the performance.
Throughout his performance, Fat Joe kept on saying how it was so great that ‘Nduke’ invited him to Nigeria lol…he said it was many times and it was quite funny. the crowd had to correct him as per its ‘Nduka’. He invited ‘Nduke’ on stage to say Happy Birthday as today is Mr Obiagena’s birthday.
Overall, strong showing by Mr. Crack! He was sweating buckets though.

Another almost hour long interlude to reset the stage. BAD!

Then the fashion started, Chris Aire, the famous bling designer or should I say ‘innovator/designer/gemologist’ as he was described in his introduction video. His show featured bling. Lots of it. The models were all dressed in white and embellished with diamonds. Oluchi, Ojy and other models featured in the show.
Cool.

Logistics/setup break – Almost hour long. BAD!

Next up, Ozwald Boateng. I love Mr. Boateng! He is talented and just sooo fine.
Clothes were on point as always. Cut to perfection. Fabric was lush. Colours were awe inspiring.
Mr. B strutted the stage at the end of his show. U can tell he is a fun loving dude. Loved it. He is sooo HOT!
Need I say it again. Another long break to set up! Bad, Bad, Bad!

My fave Nigerian designer, Deola Sagoe showed her new collection.
Deola has been so consistent over the years but this collection truly blew me away. Her denim is cut so beautifully. I am sure that sometime very soon….Deola Sagoe denim is going to be the ‘it’ jean brand a la Rock and Republic, Seven etc…
The rest of the clothes were beautiful. The models did their thing and showed it off well.
Break again to setup the stage. The crowd thinned out at this point.
Finally the Nigerian artistes.
Mr ‘Julie’, Shank performed. Was cool. The crowd were hyped. His dancers were something else. Very energetic though. Liked it.

To close things off, rave of the moment. 9ice.
He stepped on stage looking suave in an Okunoren Twins ensemble.
The crowd just loved him! Even the security guards who were stoic all night had to sing ‘Street Credibility’ along with him. He also hit us with ‘Gongo Aso’.
9ice closed the show off with a bang!

Ended – Around 4AM

To be honest, I had fun but the late start and all the lapses in logistics really tested my patience. On the bright side, Mary J, Chris Brown and Fat Joe held my hand LOL.
For the numerous people who got free passes – Press and All Access Passes. I think the festival was fabulous for them. For those who paid 5000/10000 naira for regular tickets but then wrangled their way to the front. Great for them but for those who paid 50000 and 60000 for VIP & Golden Circle tickets…..It must have been a little upsetting.
In all, kudos to Nduka. You could see him working and sweating along with everyone trying to ensure that the event was a success.
I see and feel his vision of trying to change the perception of Africa from a poor beggar to a fun loving prosperous continent that is inviting to perspective investors. That said, these ‘Africa Rising’ shows probably cost well over a billion naira in total to fund. I can’t help but think that perhaps there is a different way that such funds can benefit Nigeria and Africa.
After all is said and done, I totally respect the effort. Many sit and criticize but he is taking action.
Hope it works!

**All photos from the Lagos show were taken by me for BellaNaija but by the number of photographers present I’m sure that you will be bombarded with images from the concert over the next couple of days**

Thoughts?

SATURDAY INTERVIEWS - Eucharia Anunobi

This week's edition of 'Saturday Interviews' is from The Sun Nigeria. Its from about 2 weeks ago but still relevant. I'm speechless....read and let us know what u think.

NMA Revealing dress uproar

Yes, I erred.
May God forgive me
— Eucharia Anunobi

By SAMUEL OLATUNJI
There are some things you cannot take away from Eucharia Anunobi, popularly called UK. This graduate of English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka can act and preach. UK caused quite a stir at the Nigerian Music Award (NMA) recently when she flaunted her volumptuous body that has been object of some guys’ wet dreams.

She made SAMUEL OLATUNJI’s night in the week during this close encounter and reveals more about the dress, her broken marriage and her criteria for a new husband. Are you up to the task? Read on.

It’s been a while that I’ve seen you in a movie, what is happening to you?
You have not been watching films, my dear. I just came back from Abuja where I was on set with Desmond and others. So, you don’t watch movies. I think what you guys do is watch Africa Magic on DSTV. Africa Magic is not an authentic place to see our movies. I would rather think it is illegal.
But the producers are paid $700 for the right to air your movies.
Do you think that is right? People who are patronisng it are not doing the right thing. If you want to watch the current movie of an artiste, you better go to the movie store and buy them.

So, you are still as hot as ever.
Oh, Jesus Christ never fades so I’m not going to fade

We spoke in 2005 and one of the things you told me then was that you wanted to be a pastor. And I’ve not been able to get you earlier because of your evangelistic work. Are you trying to dump acting for pastoring?
How will I say it now? When you have been working in the Vineyard of the Lord and you have been learning at the feet of the Holy Spirit you will realize that there is no greater work than winning souls for the Kingdom. So, I have been working on the fruits of the Holy Spirit and at the fullness of time, what I will do would manifest. And I believe it is going to be very soon.

Do you actually preach or act?
I use everything God has given to me to talk to people.

How many people have given their lives to Christ under your ministration?
A lot of people have given their lives to Christ under my ministration. I can’t begin to mention names, but with the phone calls I get I realize that people are being touched.

Can I now refer to you as an evangelist?
As soon as I am through with the right things like schooling and studying continuously at Christ's feet, I will assume the tag of an evangelist.

Maybe you will convert me.
Why not? I will, by the grace of God.

Your dress at NMA caused an uproar. Don’t you think that ran contrary to Christian conduct?
A lot of people have said a lot of things but I’ll say like is in the bible, ‘if you think you have no sin, cast the first stone.’ I want to use this medium to say maybe as a Christian I might have gone a little bit overboard. I might have been coming from the point of view of an artiste and an entertainer. But listen, as a Christian I have not said I’m a saint or perfect. Even the Bible says our righteousness is like filthy rags. I might have erred a little bit because the dress was a little bit short and revealing. Maybe that was one sin I have committed but I was coming from the view of an artiste.

But I would say it is good it happened because before you can stand before people and lead them to Christ you need to fall. Bible says in the book of Psalms that only the broken and contrite spirit should sacrifice to the Lord. I’ve learnt and I am still learning at the feet of the Holy Spirit. Maybe I have done something wrong from the point of view of Christianity, but from the point of view of an artiste I don’t think it’s wrong. I want to assure my fans that it does not take away from my morality. People want to crucify me because the cloth is too short and a little bit vain but what about those sleeping with their children? Or those sleeping with their friends’ wives or do more wicked things? They are going under the guise of bring covered up. I err a little bit but it has not taken anything away from my morality.

So, that was your moment of ‘falling’ as a Christian.
Yes, maybe that was my moment of falling because as a Christian if you don’t fall you can’t rise.
But you said in an interview that your boyfriend approved wearing the dress.
I don’t think I went out of my way to say my boyfriend. If I go to an event with a male partner, does it mean every man I’m seen with is my lover? Couldn’t the partner have been my brother? I have four brothers and nobody knows them. I am not saying the person is my brother, but what if he was a cousin or friend? What if I felt too female and I needed a man by my side? But on the other hand maybe I might have said my friend did approve of the dress I wore, I still want to say that it was a moment of falling. Whether you like it or not, the devil is roaring, seeking for whom to devour. Thank God I know he is still there for me. I take all the criticism as corrective measure and I thank God it is helping me build my faith.

So, did you ask God for forgiveness?
Absolutely. Yes, he is all forgiving and merciful. He is smiling at me and he loves me. I even have people sending me text messages that they are still there for me. Some said, ‘you have fine body o, but you for no show am like that’ (laughter).

How is your kid doing now?
He is okay, we are still fighting it. He goes in and out of crises but the Lord is protecting us, at least he is alive today. He is six and half.

You told me in 2005 that you have handed over your marriage to God, but that if it breaks, that would not be an end of life. Did you foresee it was going to break?
I will not say I foresaw that it was going to break but I know that in life, you might have different kinds of dream from that of your partner. If you are spirit-filled and you have a partner that is not spirit-filled, you are walking in unrighteousness. If two don’t agree, they can never walk together. And don’t be unequally yoked with unbeliever.

Unbelieving is in different category. You might like to read books and your partner doesn’t love to. You need to find somebody that you agree. In the last interview, you will realise that I was talking as a spirit-filled person but there is no way I could know the mind of my partner. The heart of man is desperately wicked. The marriage has fallen apart, but God knows why it happened this way. I believe that all things work together for good. I regret that my marriage has broken down, because God says marriage is honourable. But what if you want to make it honourable and your partner is not willing to make it honourable? I can’t fight the battle alone, but God knows best. God does not plan anything bad for His children.

Does your career have anything to do with the break up?

No, my career had nothing to do with it. My ex-husband accepted my career the way it was, that is one thing I won’t take away from him.

What dishonourable thing did he do?
I can’t discuss that on the pages of newspaper. If you come to court during the divorce proceedings you will know.

Did it take you so long to file for a divorce because you were hoping for reconciliation?
No. Though he is trying to come back but don’t forget that we have a medical reason on ground that is quite unacceptable. Everybody already knows that the only child we have is a sickler. It will still be the same thing if we try to make more babies. We cannot continue to take risk and chance over what we can have control over. I waited for this long because the official time you are to file for a divorce is two years, except for an emergency. But I don’t believe I’m in a hurry to go anywhere.

But some of us are already lining up to have your hand in marriage.
Well, in a couple of months, it will be all over. But whoever is in a hurry to take my hand should be spirit-filled, romantic, hardworking, and have little money in his pocket to buy me rose, flowers, ice cream, amala and ponmo. He should be able to take me out once in a while.

I have all of those things you just mentioned.
(Laughter) Come and present them and let me see but the man must have eye only for me o!

Was unfaithfulness part of those things that broke the marriage?
Oh yes!

What could a man be looking for outside of you. I will feel too lucky having you.
Let me use a local proverb to illustrate: ‘people wey get yanch do not know how to sit.’ That is life sometimes, it is unfortunate.

Perhaps, you were not up to it as a wife.
Uhhhh! My dear that is not it. I’m sure if you are able to get to him, he will tell you.
There was this friend of mine he was talking to for reconciliation that put him on speaker phone for me to hear and he said he missed me. But as you know, love is not enough. There are a lot of other things to consider.

So, unfaithfulness broke your home.
Yes, it did. And maybe lack of communication added to it.

There have been some talks about your new partner…
(Cuts in). I have not told anyone that I have a new partner.

But you introduced him as ‘honey’ at NMA.
For goodness sake, Samuel, if you are with a friend, won’t you introduce him to people you meet?

But people said you introduced him romantically?
Which one is ‘romantically’ again? I don’t know that. I am praying and hoping that God will give me the right man soon. And as soon as the right man comes, I’m not going to hide him. I am a full blown adult and I want to get married again. I’ll not say meet my boyfriend, I will say meet my husband. I am not looking for a boyfriend; I am looking for a husband.

That means the guy you took to NMA is not the main guy?
(Laughs) You just don’t give up, do you? I have not told you that I have a boyfriend. This whole uproar is coming on because it’s been two years and nobody has seen me with anybody. Come on, give me a break.

So, are you still single?
Yes, pray for me seriously.

What about searching?
Yes, I am searching for that wonderful person.
People alleged that you wear your marriage down with your trouble. And he has to run away.
Unfortunately because of the job we do, people tend to want to believe that is who you are. But it is not so.

So, you are not troublesome?
Absolutely not. Why would you look for trouble? I don’t look for trouble; for goodness sake, I gave my life to Christ on March 17, 1997.

Would you say you were everything a good wife should be while the marriage lasted?
Yes, by the grace of God Almighty. And whoever marries me will know and taste that there is no better woman.

You lived with your ex-husband for a couple of months before marriage. Why?

He was squatting in my place. He had no accommodation.
I’m sure you did some things a Christian should not do.

I agree I did.
How old are you?
I am in my prime; I am youthful and very bright. To God be the glory, you’ve seen the evidence of youthfulness (at the NMA). Someone even sent me a text that he should have been chasing me since, he said did not know that everything is still ‘correct’. So, I am still young.

But jokes apart, if I had known everything was that correct, I wouldn’t mind.
Something dey worry you (general laughter).

When was the first time you went behind a closed door with a guy?
I had come out of secondary school. I was doing my A’level. It was a while ago.

Since it was a while ago and you’ve grown older, have you lost any of your charm on bed?
Do you expect me answer that question, Samuel. Some things are called secret.

Super Eagles and Everton striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni married Yvonne Lameen Ikhana last week.
“When I wake up everyday, I look at her face and she makes me happy. I go for training and play my matches with happiness in my heart. That is the motivation that makes me perform well. She often tells me: ‘Just go there and play well and score for me.’ That gives me more confidence and belief in myself,” Yakubu said after the marriage ceremony. Eagles’ striker and Yakubu’s team-mate at Everton, Victor Anichebe, was the Best Man at the historic wedding ceremony that Captain Nwankwo Kanu and his wife, Amarachi also attended.

SATURDAY INTERVIEWS - Mike Ezuruonye

From the Vanguard Newspaper by Funmi Johnson

I’m a sucker for good looking ladies — Mike Ezuruonye E-mail
Written by Funmi Johnson
Saturday, 05 July 2008
No doubt, Mike Ezuruonye has one of the most accelerated rise to stardom. His entry into the movie industry was just by sheer coincidence, so to speak.

According to this handsome dude, he was on a sort of career break when he ran into Ruke Amata, an old friend of his who talked him into joining Nollywood.

Today, Mike stands to be one of Nigeria’s hottest Nollywood star with several movies to his credits.Image In this chat with Vanguard, Mike shares his experience on a particular embarrassing encounter he had with a woman for playing a particular role in a movie.

On his love life he says, ‘I’m a sucker for good looking women’. Enjoy:

How is life? Life is good, we thank God.

What are you working on currently in terms of movies? There are so many but of course you know that there’s a break which has been on for about two months, but from next week we’ll start releasing movies again.
I still have some works unreleased.

By the way, how did you get into the movie industry? That was via my stage coach whom I have not seen in a long time. His name is Ruke Amata.
I was buying fuel somewhere in Maryland when he saw me and convinced me to come join Nollywood and here I am today. The shipping company I was working with was leaving for Tanzania and was somehow on break when I ran into Ruke.

Then it was like a vocational thing for me to act. I did not really take it serious. I was on a career break and was having fun not knowing that God had plans for me to be here.

Was ‘Burning Desire’ your first movie? No it wasn’t. Funny enough, my first professional acting experience was a series but it has not seen the light of day till date.
It was supposed to be ‘Ultimate Hero’ from the stables of Zeb Ejiro and it was sponsored by Nigerian Breweries- Gulder to be precise.. I don’t know what went wrong but I’ve not seen a single episode.

Which was the movie that brought you into lime-light? Broken marriage, Critical Decision and then Burning Desire.

How have you been finding the industry?
It has been good. The industry is one that is growing and if you are a visionary that knows where he is going and if you have set a target for yourself, you just have to grow with the industry.

It comes with its ups and downs but the good thing is that it comes with enough good will. Movies are the most positive exports from Nigeria. As we speak right now our clientele have gone beyond Nigeria, beyond Africa, into the Caribbeans and into black America.

I have black Americans who will stop me on the streets in the U.S and say ‘hey, you are doing a good job. I know you for real, the African Michael?’ So one feels proud that we are actually ascending and getting somewhere.

But still there is still a lot to be done technically, with regards to some spheres and circles in the industry. This is the only place in the world where you’ll call up somebody and under one week, the person delivers yet the person hasn’t seen your scripts before. So when it comes to artistry, yes, we are good; but technically I think we need to really upgrade.

You seem to have a very good command of grammar, what did you study in school? Accounting. Every good path is not always smooth.

Can you share some of the rough paths you’ve travelled in life?
As a growing child, I always had it smooth but the roughest time I had in my life was when I lost my father in 1990.

We had to face proper reality as some amenities were withdrawn from us. So it was really tough adjusting. In the industry too, the bottle necks were too much because with my former job, I was used to sitting down and doing my job.

Also, when I was an upcoming artiste, a lot of my older colleagues were not very comfortable with me. Sometimes during rehearsals, they will not rehearse properly with me and when it’s time for action, you see the real them coming out.

I was always prepared for them so they never caught me unawares. But there are still some who I respect till tomorrow because they gave me that encouragement. I can remember RMD, Olu Jacobs and Justus Esiri.

Who is this special woman in your life right now? She is special and I want her to stay that way.
I do not want her name in the press but she is special

How soon are you going to the altar? It could be soon, I don’t know but at our special time.

Who is your kind of girl? I like real people. I don’t like somebody who will be all out to absolutely impress me.
I don’t like fake people. I like true people that when I look at you, I can see your inside. I like a woman who, devoid of anything is also God fearing, though sometimes we sin but you have to always understand that we are nothing in the eyes of God who made us. So we have to put that as a basic principle. And of course I’m a sucker for a woman who dresses good and carries herself very well.

So this special girl fits in well into all of these qualities?
I would say she has the ABCs of my description of womanhood.

Is she in the industry? No. Fate has its course and she is just not in the industry.

I don’t discriminate against anyone having something to do with somebody in his industry but it just did not happen my way. I am sure she watches your movies. Yes, she watches some of them.

So how does she feels when she sees you smooching or kissing a girl on set? Some, when she watches and starts feeling funny, she just takes a deep breath. And I tell her ‘honey, it’s just a movie’. She understands it is just the job and she knows who I am.

She knows the kisses I give her is different from what she sees in the movies.

Being a good-looking and fast-growing movie star, you must have a lot of fans especially female lusting after you. How do you handle them? I take it that I am being appreciated for my work and what I do and I see myself in this light. I am just like the regular guy you see on the streets, the only difference is that I am on television. I know when and where to draw the line and say ‘this is going over board’.

Definitely if a smile is thrown at me, of course I will reciprocate and a handshake is not bad at all because these are the people who keep you in demand so, you owe them that. You have to give them that goodwill back and if someone is being too persistent, you’ll find a way around it and make her understand you are not out for what she wants.

Have you experienced any embarrassing moment before for playing a role? There was this Igbo film titled ‘Moment of Truth’ where I played an illiterate marketer. I was so obsessed with some girl I was helping in school.
Chioma Chukwuka was the girl and I was really nasty in that film. Now there was this day I was driving and an old lady double crossed me. I came down from the car to know what was wrong. I was still asking ‘what is going on here’ and the next thing I knew, the lady came out from her car and slapped me hard on my face.

I was so shocked. I could not say anything. This was an old woman, even older than my mom. As if the slap was not enough, she started shouting at me ‘You are stupid. You are mad. You are crazy’ I looked left and right to be sure it wasn’t a set up. I moved back a little because I could not understand what was happening.

Two million and one things were running through my mind at the same time. She just kept on ranting: ‘How can you treat Chioma Chukwuka like that? Who taught you that as element of marriage?’ I was speechless. Then I understood and I was like, ‘oh my God this is all because of a film’. By the time she was yelling again, some okada riders packed and asked what happened.

On hearing the woman mention Chioma Chukwuka, they knew it was about a film and started laughing. Today, that woman is one of my biggest fan. She forced me to lunch that day and when I refused she just got into my car and threw her car keys to her grand daughter and said, ‘anywhere you are going, you will go but we must go for lunch together’.

We went for lunch that day and today, we are very close. She calls and pray for me most of the time.

If you can change anything in the Nigerian entertainment industry, what will it be? I will lay more emphasis on sound. We need to improve on that. If we put our movies on the big screen with this format, you will see a big lapse.
We also have to put the proper structure in place where royalties are being paid for works of artistes.

What advice do you have for young upcoming ones? Get your education first. Don’t come because you think there is money.
Have love for the arts; have love for what you want to do and then the money, fame and goodwill will come.

SATURDAY INTERVIEWS - 9ice

Every Saturday, Nigerian newspapers particularly The Punch, Vanguard and The Sun feature some pretty interesting interviews. I know not all of you peruse the Nigerian newspapers so thought it would be a great idea to share (while giving full credit to the interviewers as always). So enjoy! First up - 9ice courtesy of The Vanguard Nigeria
Interview by Ogbonna Amadi

My poverty days are over — 9ice
9Nice the Gonga Aso singer opened up to Entertainment Editor, Ogbonna Amadi on his travails as a man driven by a compassion to survive hunger and to succeed life.

He also spoke on his failed contract with Nigerian Breweries, his performance at the last Friday heldImage concert for Mandela concert in London and more. It’s a must read.
Excerpts;

It’s nice to have you back in the country, when did you travel?

We travelled on Monday 23rd June on board Virgin Atlantic airline.

And where and when did the concert hold?

It was held on a Friday night, 27th June in London.

How would you describe your experience?

We arrived London on the 23rd and had our rehearsals on the 24th and 25th. It was actually a live band rehearsal and when I noticed some flaws, I decided to get some back up singers. I knew my song wouldn’t come out very well without back up singers.

So I went in search of back singers amongst Nigerians living in London and who could understand my song. After our rehearsal I requested for passes for them to come on stage with me, but the stage manager said he couldn’t offer anymore passes because he was done with it.

And that was how I ended up rehearsing that same day with the Soweto group. I taught them the notes of the song and they understood it. They were able to back me up

What was the feeling like?

The feeling was enormous and great because a lot of things that happened back stage which people didn’t get to see. At the back stage, the artists had a room to himself. The room is movable, it’s fully air conditioned and it’s stacked with food, drinks and gym.

We also had make-up artistes attached to the rooms and so if you have need to change it was at your beck and call. I must say it was a really great experience and it was very different from what is obtained here in Nigeria.

How did you feel on stage?

When I got on stage I was a little nervous because half the crowd were white. But when I started I got encouraged by the whites.

On stage when I got hold of the microphone and shouted, ‘people are you ready’ they screamed Yes, it was all the encouragement I needed to begin my performance. I felt great having to perform with all those other artists from all over the world and having almost 100,000 people to perform for.

So how did the people react to your performance?

As soon as I asked if they were ready and I got a positive response, I let go my music. As I wasImage singing, I noticed that six white girls in front of the crowd went horse riding on the shoulders of their boyfriends to hail my performance. I focused only on those girls throughout my performance.

What song did you come on stage with?

All the African musicians that came were given the opportunity to do only a song. I performed my favourite song Gonga Aso and after the performance the band I rehearsed with said it was the most challenging song they did amongst all other African artistes that came because most of those other artistes had foreign spices in their music.

After the concert, what was it like outside stage?

After the concert, I had the privilege of walking in the midst of the white people and with the team that took us from Nigeria to UK. While in the crowd, I was noticed and as soon as this happened, the crowd momentarily shifted focus from the Ugandan who was performing on stage to hug and shake hands with me.

They were all commending me that it was a good performance.

While you were in the UK, you were also supposed to perform for the Nigeria Breweries company, what went wrong?

Yes I was to perform for Nigeria Breweries. The performance was earlier scheduled for 23rd in Awka but for some reasons it was shifted for June 25th .

And when this happened I went to the EXP, the people in charge of the event and asked if there was anything possible to change the date of my performance. They told me there was nothing they could do.

So I wrote a letter to them telling them how important it was for me to attend the Mandela concert because I had committed myself into it.

Where you paid for the Nigeria Breweries deal?

Yes.

So what will you do now?

My manager has gone to see the EXP people and he was told that the person in charge was out of town. So we are waiting for the guy to return and until then our fate is in his hands.

How has your new found fame affected you?

It has affected me in so many positive ways because for a guy coming from a ‘lower class’ background, I have been able to convince people that good things still come out of the ghetto. I have been able to understand that if you have a dream and you are focused and disciplined, you will achieve whatever you want no matter where you are coming from.

I’ve also learnt so many things in life. At a time I was home for four years after my secondary education because I wanted to go the university. And within this period, I tried my hands on so many things.

We were poor and the poverty was so much that I thought there was nothing more to do than to hate God. I am a man gifted in so many ways. I was once a boxer, footballer and a writer.

But I also knew I was intelligent enough to go to university because I had friend who were in 200/300 levels in the university who will bring their assignment for me to solve and I did.

So virtually all the things I touched in the past went wrong except for music.

When I first started off in the music industry I didn’t want to be singer. I just loved writing songs for people to sing but as God will have it, I’m into music full time now.

And your neighbourhood...?

The neighbourhood I came out from is one which I can never leave. I still go to my daddy’s house even though I moved to my own house. I did that because I needed to concentrate more on my music and also for security reasons.

Daddy and I

Relationship with my dad was like that of cat and dog until my dad went to a place where he was told that I ‘m destined to be great. He was warned to leave me alone and he did that.

How do your parents feel about you so today.?

Everything is okay now. I’ve been able to change their living style.

Artiste Fee

When I started fully as a performing artiste I started off by getting paid within the range of N100 to N200, 000. But all that change when Gongo Aso became a hit. The song became a hit because I promoted it my self.

And since the album was released during the festive period (December), I thought it wasn’t time to bother people with politics, crime. It was celebration time so I had to look for something to go with the season. And that’s why I left Street Credibility and focused on Congo Aso.

How true is it that a girlfriend outside your regular woman is pregnant for you?

Let me correct that notion. As far as I’m concerned, nobody is pregnant for me and no one is carrying my baby anywhere. I know that my girlfriend is not pregnant.

Stardom

Of course stardom is something that brings about a whole lot of things, a whole lot of people close to you. You see people that will just like you just like that and you don’t really know what they want from you.

They just continue to attach themselves to you and sometimes you get confused about those that like you genuinely and those who do not. For me I believe I’m yet to get to where I’m going to and I wouldn’t want all these things to pull me down. And I see this as a challenge that I’ve been able to conquer.

Do you have any collabos?

Definitely. I’ll be doing more collabos. Before now I’d done more than thirty collabos and I’m also trying to do some on the international level.

Will you say you are now comfortable?

In Nigeria we are faced with a lot of challenges everyday, but now I’m comfortable because I can eat what I like and do what I want. From one square meal a day, I can now afford three square meals.

Yes there may be some aspects in life where you are lacking in your career but there are some areas where God blesses and you have to praise him for that.

Hello
______________________________________
I was bored and listless at work. It was Monday morning, and I was back in the office after a lovely weekend. The office felt quite empty because three of my colleagues had taken the day off. I didn't blame them one bit. It was a lovely day, the sun was shining brightly outside and the last thing anybody wanted was to be stuck in front of a computer screen on the sixth floor in the City. I tried to concentrate on the row of figures on my spreadsheet, but it was proving too difficult. I shook my head and wished I had requested the day off too. I looked at the time in the corner of my screen and saw it was only 10.22 am meaning the day was still far from over. I sighed, looked out of my window and recalled all the fun happenings of the past weekend and that had just passed.

My good friend Titi had organised a lovely weekend for five of her closest friends to celebrate her birthday. All of us had been excited when she told us the plan, especially me. I had been having a stressful time at work in the last month. A fun weekend was exactly what I needed to chill out and shake off the stress. As soon as it was five o'clock last Friday, I had dashed out of the office, gone home to change, picked up my overnight bag and head to Titi's place. She lived in a lovely 2-bed house in a nice part of North London, with a huge kitchen and garden and she often invited us to hang out there. She’s a lucky girl, while the rest of us were still living in matchboxes and paying inflated rents to landlords, her dad had helped her with a huge deposit and she was able to buy her own place four years ago.

By the time I arrived, everyone was already there waiting for me: Dolapo, Funmi, Maureen and Temmy. We were all friends from our undergraduate university days and thanks to Funmi and Titi, we remained a close-knit group. They kept us in touch with each other. After the usual round of hugs, gist swaps and a light meal, we went out to have a good time. First we saw a movie - Sex and the City of course - the hot new ultimate chick-flick. Afterwards, we went clubbing and had a groovy time. I had forgotten how much fun it was to just let my hair down and dance the night away with my girls. When it was around 2am, we decided to call it a night, so we all piled into a taxi, fuelled by alcohol and excitement, talking nineteen to the dozen and laughing at the silliest thing throughout the journey back to Titi's place.

On Saturday morning, we woke up early - well if you call 10.30 am early- because Titi was having a party later that evening and she wanted to cook and get her house ready. One by one we stumbled out of bed, cleaned our teeth, washed our faces and trooped into Titi's kitchen to find something to eat for breakfast. Maureen decided she wanted oats and we all agreed with that, so she got to work preparing some. Titi brought out her list and started sharing out the tasks for the day. I offered to help with cooking the jollof rice, Funmi was doing chicken and beef the way we all loved it at her party last summer, Temmy was making salad, plantain and gizzard stew, Maureen was making puff-puff and pancakes, Titi was going to pick up her birthday cake and a few more supplies from the supermarket while Dolapo said she might make moin-moin if there was time, but she would rearrange Titi’s living room and sort out the music. Then I noticed that Titi had forgotten to plan for something.
"Titi, you forgot to mention drinks" I said, looking in her fridge for the milk. "Who is going to get them?"
She turned round and said, "Oh drinks have been taken care of"
"Where are they?" Maureen asked. "Let's put them in the fridge now so that we won't forget"
"Oh, they are not here, somebody is bringing them in the afternoon". At that point we all looked up and turned to face her.
"Who?" five of us asked at the same time.
"Somebody, a friend of mine is bringing the drinks..." Titi said coyly.
"Who IS that?" I piped up. "Does he or she have a name?"
Titi started blushing and then she finally told us that it was a guy she had just started seeing and he was the most wonderful guy a girl could ever hope to meet. Of course we all wanted the low down on the gist of this guy.
"Hmmm, na wa o Titi" Funmi said. "When did you become under-g like this?"
"I'm not! I only just started seeing him two months ago"
"Eh, is that why you shenked me the last time I asked you to come to the new bar with me, you said you were going somewhere else?" Maureen asked.
Titi said nothing.
"See, she is guilty" Temmy said.
"You guys let's leave her for now" I said "We'll meet the guy today and deal with Titi later"
“So you won’t even give us any bit of information?” Dolapo asked.
“Alright, alright” Titi finally said. “I met him at a conference, I noticed him right away because he was the only black guy there. Throughout the conference our eyes kept meeting and afterwards, he came to say hello to me and we got talking. That’s it really”
“What’s his name?”
“His name is Dayo”
“Hmmm, and what does he do?” Maureen asked.
“He’s a lawyer too, it was a legal conference”
“Cool” Dolapo said. “So why the secrecy now?”
“Well since you guys will see him today, I might as well tell you now” Titi paused for effect. “He’s much older than me”
“How much older?” Temmy asked.
“He’s 35” Titi replied. “So he’s like eight years older than me”
“Wow!” Maureen exclaimed, almost dropping the spoon she was holding.
“I know”, Titi said, looking a bit downcast. “That’s the only problem”
“Actually I don’t see why that is a problem” Funmi said thoughtfully. “Eight years is not that bad.”
“I don’t see a problem either” I added. “When you said much older I was already assuming like fifteen years older”
Everyone laughed and Titi said “Ah! Fifteen years ke, chill abeg Lola. He doesn’t even look that old”
Maureen said, “Okay maybe it’s not so bad. At least he should be more mature than guys our age”
“Tell me about it” Dolapo said. “I could do with a mature guy right now”
“Yeah call him and tell him to bring his single friends along this evening” Temmy said.
“Eh Temmy!” Titi said and we all burst into laughter again. Temmy was the only one among us in a long-term relationship.

Later that afternoon, we were almost through with our cooking, Titi’s living room was set-up and she was in the bathroom blow-drying her hair having just had a shower, when the guy arrived. Temmy opened the door for him and he stepped in. We all introduced ourselves.
“Hello, nice to meet you” he said. “Titi has told me about all of you”
“Would you like something to eat or drink?” I offered.
“No thank you, I’m in a hurry” he said politely. “I just came to drop the drinks and give Titi her birthday present. I have to go somewhere but I’ll be back for the party”
He dropped a parcel on the table and turned to leave. “I’ll see you all later. Bye”
“Byeeeee” we chorused and Dolapo locked the door after him.
“Hmmm, he seemed nice” she said, as she came back into the living room.
“Yeah Titi was right, he doesn’t look that old” Funmi said.
I ran upstairs to the bathroom and could hear Titi talking on the phone. She hung up just as I popped my head around the door.
“That was Dayo” she said, looking up. “He said he’s dropped my birthday present and he’ll be back around eight”
“Great. I’m dying to know what he got you so come and open your present”
“I’ll be down shortly, or wait, come and help me with my hair to make it faster”
When we got downstairs, Titi asked, “So what did you guys think of him?”
“He is good looking” Maureen said. “And he dressed nicely”
“He seems nice and laid-back” Funmi said.
“I think he looked cool and confident, like a successful person who doesn’t need to show off”
“Yeah he’s not trying too hard” I said. “He’s comfortable with himself”
“Na wah o, all that analysis in one brief meeting!” Titi exclaimed. “But seriously, I’m glad you guys said that because that’s exactly what I see in him too”
“Then don’t let the age thing bother you” Funmi said.
“Yeah if he likes you and you like him too, just relax see what happens. You might really enjoy his company in spite of the difference in age.” Dolapo said.
“Yeah go for it babe” I said.
Titi smiled and looked relieved. “Thanks girls. I was worried you guys would think it was weird or something.”
“Not at all” Maureen said. “Now let’s go and get ready, your guests would start arriving soon”.

My office telephone rang shrilly, jolting me out of my thoughts. I looked around guiltily, hoping nobody had noticed that my mind was far away. I picked up the call and it was my boss reminding me that we had a meeting later in the afternoon after lunch. I glanced at the time; it was now ten minutes to eleven. I hung up and decided to get my work up to scratch before lunch time. Time went quickly and before I knew it, it was one o’clock. I decided to take a break so I popped out quickly to get something to eat. I got back to my desk and remembered I wanted to check if Titi had uploaded the photos we took over the weekend. The party had been so much fun; I had danced most of the evening with a guy who had the potential to progress to boyfriend level. But first things first….

I logged on to Facebook and scrolled down the news feed. I noticed a friend had been tagged in an album so out of curiosity I clicked on the photo to check it out. She was a bridesmaid at a wedding and since I loved viewing wedding albums, I clicked on. I was thinking…. I like the bride’s make-up… her jewellery is lovely… hmmm not too sure about her dress sha….etc when I landed on a photo that nearly made me choke on my chicken sandwich. I stared at my computer screen in shock. Was it…? Yes, the groom in the album was Dayo, the same guy that Titi was dating! My friend is getting involved with a married man! My heart sank. Oh God, what should I do?
