MISS UNIVERSE 2008 - AFRICAN QUEENS

Hi Everyone,

How are you guys going?
I'm sorry for abandoning y'all.
Crazy is an understatement for the last couple of weeks!
I was in South Africa last week and the internet in my hotel was achingly slow!
Anyways, hope all is well.
It seems like this is my month for 'celebrity' spottings LOL
I saw Nollywood actresses, Ini Edo and Oge Okoye shopping about a week ago....lots of 'fans' were approaching them to say hi and all that. Its that serious!

Anyways, the Miss Universe pageant is here. Once again, the African contingent is trying to grab the crown. Check out the African contestants in this year's pageant.

NIGERIA - Stephanie Oforka
See Stephanie's Video Interview

TANZANIA - Amanda Ole Sulul

SOUTH AFRICA - Tansey Coetzee

GHANA - Yvette Nsiah

MAURITIUS - Olivia Carey

ANGOLA - Lesliana Pereira

EGYPT - Yara Naoum

All the airbrushing and oiling up is rather serious.
Anyways, what do you think?
What are Miss Nigeria Universe's chances??
Let us know

  2. Ghana and Angola are gorgeous; Nigeria, she's okay, but I dont see it happening this year. Maybe I need better view of her face. Who knows? And when did all this cleavage/baby oil wahala start?

these girls have been airbrushed to within an inch of their lives and you can't really tell who's truly beautiful and who's not

Stephanie Oforka's chances are great. All it is, is that she could get rid of the straight hair, have it more in curls. 'Do the side' posing a lot, if possible, have a pout. Wear more of bandeau/bustier and the cleavage concealing outfits. She could try wide legged trousers, if it's allowed. OR she could wear long gowns with slits in the front. She will do well, it's just little bits that matters.

    Take care Bella...

haters!!!!!!out in force...with or without air brushing, these r some very pretty girls...ppl so quick to criticise, half the pics we see of stars or in magazines, any website r all airbrushed unless ot was taken on sm1's private camera...these pictures r and i dnt expect less from the show promoters!
can u compare these to the mgbn pics???????
i thnk she looks beautiful & ll go far....

i wonder why it is that when once criticizes, one is termed a 'hater'. What the heck does that mean? Why the heck should i hate? Have the pics been airbrushed or not? As someone who's heavily involved in photography, i find excessive airbrushing sometimes takes away from the true beauty of the objects, rather than adding to it. Proficiency in the use of photoshop doesn't make one a good photographer. I often prefer when the shots are left as natural as possible, but to each his own. Not hating, just stating.

    'nuff said

Bella, I hate to think that for someone like you who writes so well is hung up on this word 'ANYWAYS' Please, check your dictionary again and stop adding s to anyway and you use it so often.

I took time to peruse the Miss Universe website. After careful study, my results:

Miss Nigeria stands a serious chance of winning or at least placing in the top ten. Besides looking at still photographs, I also looked at video interviews. You get to see the girls personality and looks combined (and there is no photoshop). Stephanie looks so fresh and pretty. Who ever said she is not pretty is seriously blind. She looks way better than that big-nosed and shapeless Munachi Abii that disgraced herself during her reign. Stephanie has the special "IT" factor that alludes so many other pretty women.

To borrow from one commentator, Stephanie will go far at the pageant and in life. Though she did not win the overall MBGN contest, she has thus far outshined the overall winner, Adaee Igwe. IMO, she is the true overall MGBN.

Stephanie also has her own website, which indicates to me that she is savvy and driven (ala Beyonce). I totally respect that because I am driven and drawn to similar individuals.

I hope she wins because she will do us proud during her reign. Best of luck Stephanie. You make me proud to be a Nigerian.

    okaaaay.... my sentiments are
1.Ghana - good look, great interview, needs to do sit-ups and get her upper lip waxed, would look better in long straight hair+bangs instead of those horrendous curls...
2.Angola - good look (tho a little bit cross-eyed), does anyone have a portuguese to english dictionary? thanx! might just pull a big surprise... she's waaaay hotter than Micaela Reis (MU Angola 2007, top 10 finalist)...
3.Tanzania - cute, but i just don't see another Flaviana Matata happening this year
4.Mauritius - are you kidding me with that bridal gown? good-looking tho...
5.Egypt - really disappointed me, nothing like Heba El Sisy, or Meriam George...
6.South Africa - hate to be racist, but can't there ever be a black queen? she fine tho... she got a nice body; will be shocked not to see her in the final 15/10/5
7.Nigeria - i look at this girl and see Miss World, not Miss Universe. Her beauty is way too demure for Miss Universe. Should try out for Miss World. Capable of pulling an Agbani-sized surprise. Must also work on her communication skills... seriously... has anyone seen her interview on the Miss Universe site? it was slightly cringe-worthy!

in general i think we have a strong African group this year... but the ladies have to step up their game against P. Rico, Venezuela, USA, Viet Nam, Japan, Montenegro and all others.
    GOOD LUCK!
