The Nigerian music scene is growing and developing - its great to see some Nigerian acts diversifying in terms of the music they are producing. There is a new genre emerging – something along the lines of Naija Soft-Rock. Often times, their songs are gospel tinged such as the very popular, Lagimo.
Check out another artiste that is making waves – Nikki Laoye with her song, ‘Never Felt This Way Before’ which coincidentally was also produced by Cobhams.
Unbiased also did a recent feature on her. Check on it HERE
I have been searching for this song for ages! Its called ‘Oju Ife Lo’ by Abuja-based artiste, SLK – Luv it!
Interviews
Check out some recent interviews:
Genevieve Nnaji Interview – She talks about her new fashion label, St. Genevieve and her other projects
Ini Edo Interview by Stella Dimoko Korkus– She responded to the allegations that she was arrested in the UK for trafficking drugs (The Nigerian press gives Ini such a hard time.....I hope they ease off)

ReplyDeleteBella naija- You got it wrong, Tomorrow is the last day in May. The month of May has 31 days not 30 days. Get it right Bella.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Beyonce/Rihanna movie, i am mos def appalled. What is wrong with the Nigerian Movie Industry?. Have they run out of story lines?...If you have to come up with a story about celebrities, then pick pple that look remotely like them. How does Omotola look like Rihanna for crying out loud. She does not in a any way, shape or form resemble her. This is just absurd.
LMFBAOWROTF!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOH GAWWWWWDDDDD!!! Beyonce vs Rihanna???? And Omotola agreed to star in it??? Ohmigosh! Have you seen the two beyonce movies made in ghana (what's the Ghanaian movie industry called please)? I can't remember the first one, but the second is 'Return of Beyonce'. And to think at that time i snobbishly thought it could never happen in nigeria!!! I should have remember 'Sharon the Stone in Abuja' LOL! LOL!!!
BTW has anyone heard genevieve's new song? Can't be bothered to remember the title but appalling doesn't even begin to describe it. Who the heck told the girl she can sing??
ReplyDeleteOkay..so i heard rumours about this movie and of course i thought it was a joke..but em....I really am amazed at the ludicrousness of it all...So Omotola thinks she can pull of a 19 or is it 20 year old Rihanna? Jim Iyke has enough swagger to pull the Jay Z thing off but again i have to ask WHY? That being said, i will watch it so i can shake my head in disbelief and convince myself to still believe in Nollywood...
ReplyDeleteI have to buy the new Styl-Plus cd...

Why oh why are nigerian journalists such bad 'interviewers'??? I mean, come on, those questions were sooooo incredibly lame and they really get my goat when they get into that marriage issue with women. Enough already!
ReplyDeleteLMAO! Indeed, Jesus take the wheel! Nollywood wonders shall never cease. Will check the SLK tunes when i can. What did y'all think about the QUEEN Nigeria beauty pageant, pls?
ReplyDeletelol....
ReplyDeletelmao....

I blogged about the Rihanna/BEYONCE movie, its just crzy.. that someone out there thought that that was a good idea for a movie...did anyone notice how JIM IYKE'S character's name was JAY!!!! so guys technically it is BEYONCE, RIHANNA AND JAY!! lol. anyways is genevieve losing weight??? is it me or does she look very SKINNY in that PIC??
ReplyDeletekudos to Nikki and SLK...real quality sturvves
ReplyDeletehey bella! ive been searching for SLK's song for ages too! to make it worse, i knew neither the name of the song nor the name of the artiste! haha, im soooo glad you found it. thank you!!!!! :)

ReplyDelete*SMH*..na wa o! I heard about this Beyonce Vs Rihana movie n i thot it was just a Ghanian thing..ase eee Nollywood too was abi is involved..anyhoo not surprised..those folks need to check demselves... isn't there supposed 2 be a standard..some where er... i dare say "up there", that Nollywood movies shld meet up with? Kilode? Like becos of ojukokoro and longer throat..these ppl r thrown in useless storylines, painfull acting..rubbish in rubbish out...
ReplyDeleteThe Yoruba ones r even more watchable..the Bini 1ncs r gettn there..but the english ones r sickening...can't remember when last i saw one..,watch recommendn
And as for Omotola..arggghhh NO Comment...
rnb that movie was a mess will have to blog about it another time..........nice page u got girl.......i'm following ur foot steps....u inspired me sister
ReplyDeleteomotola just killed me in that film. lmaooooooooooooooooo. wat did she think she was doing with that speaker when she was rehearsing.
ReplyDeletethat woman is seriously packing on d pounds. they should have cast a younger person in d role.
The Ini edo and Genevieve interviews were so brash. What school did these journalists attend? If i were Samuel Olatunji's wife,(Genevieve's interviewer) i would make him sweat for practically hitting on Genevieve. As for the beyonce movie, i reserve my comment coz i am too appalled to put my thots into words right now.
ReplyDeletelol aww c'mon guys the beyonce v rihanna movie wasnt that bad, i actually enjoyed it,as it provided a lot of comic relief, i think you just need to watch it with an open mind 2 enjoy it, its rily funny.
ReplyDeleteas 4 d styl plus new album....... hmmmmm im not quite sold yet, may be i as expecting a bit more... dunno..mayb a second listen ill do the trick

However, i read a blog recently about this gospel singer, the song was nice so i decded to ask if you could get more of her songs and post. I read it from this blog http://seunschronicles.blogspot.com/2008/05/friday-song-spiration-1.html,
ReplyDeleteThanks Bella, you are doing a great job.
off to watch beyonce vs rihri
ReplyDeleteI get goosebumps just thinking about the Beyonce/rihanna "project".
ReplyDeleteNice post bella..
ReplyDeleteDid anyone read the genevieve interview..
The way nigerian journalist ask questions are so out of line.. I mean why would a journalist ask "you've been linked to everyone romantically when will you be linked to me?" WTF
They annoy me everytime i read an article..
Anywho, i watched the beyonce vs rihanna and I must say that nadia's role in that movie was very very annoying..I mean i felt like slapping her tru the screen... It was quite a pointless movie to me tho even tho the part 5 isn't on onlinenigeria yet..Hehe..
Erm, oh the nikki girl's song isnt bad at all..Never heard of her before..Nice one frm her...
OH COME ON! COME ON! THE LATEST FRO NOLLYWOOD REALLY TAKES THE CAKE...AND I M VERY OFFENDED TAT SOME UNEDUCATED LOT CAN ACTUALLY SIT DOWN AND PLAN TO SHOT SUCH A SUB STANDARD PIECE OF CRAP....WHY IN HEAVEN NAME DO WE CELEBRATE MEDIOCRITY IN THIS COUNTRY.....
ReplyDeleteNice post Bella, the problem with buying cds by Naija artist, like Stylesplus is that there is no central place online where it can be purchased... especially if you reside in the states or canada... downloading them, however is the easiest way to get the music...which is sad, because they should be caking (making money) more than they are on album sales..
ReplyDeleteThat Rihanna and Beyonce movie is just over the top, Nollywood is a mess for that.lol!...

ReplyDeleteLets know if its good when u watch it.
Will check out the ney styl plus album.
I am totally lost for words; I would have thought the likes of Omotola would be over making crappy movies like this. First we had Sharone stone,Juliet must die, but why? and now we have to move to this piece of crap. First, I think whoever wrote and produced this piece of nonsense should be shot and i mean shot dead!!! Is this the sort of movie we are hoping and fighting to take to the cannes film festival? This is the highest level at which our artistes are exhibiting their lack of better judgment in picking their scripts. For the love of God, what was Omotola thinking by being a part of this nonsense? She loves Beyonce, we get that, but when she decides its times to throw her career down the gutters, I dont think it should be over such a crappy movie! Upset doesnt even cut it! I look at our music artistes and I'm loving the revolution and I take another look at the movie industry and I can only get upset, especially when the likes of Omotola, Genevieve and Jim Iyke dream and talk of being a part of Hollywood, someday, in their after lives I must say! Bella this is really upsetting and whoever finds this hillarious or worth the watch is definitely not a part of the people who wish positive progression for Nigeria. Bella, this is disheartening and highly disturbing. Did any of the parties involved in this movie stop to think that foriegners will get to see this lowest of the low creativity coming from Nigeria yet again. Sad as it may sound I cant stand to watch Nigerian movies, though I try and sometimes, the likes of Omotola have been the driving force to the few I have seen, but when she does this and becomes party to this piece of crap, I can't help but think and feel she's got absolutely no sense of direction for her career and lacks the creative capacity to pick a good script, even my 6yr-old niece would display a better sense of creativity and flush this gabbage down the drain. Jim Iyke, I cant even begin to explain, its totally and utterly ridiculous that anyone would put themselves through the excrutiating pain and see this movie or think Jim Iyke is the Don Juan in our movie industry. Common people, could money have been so important that being a part of this movie was the best you all could do? Omotola needs to be told some home truths, "Omo T, baby, maybe you arent a bad actress, well as far as nija movies go, but when you begin to do things like Beyonce Vs Rihanna, I cant help but think that you are as bad as any other actress parading the our screens. This is a huge blow to you as a person, your intellectual and creative capacity. To Nadia Buari, maybe you think being a part of such nonsense would help your career or you are happy to help ridicule the nija movie scene, but being a part of this crap makes you as guilty as sin! Jim Iyke, brush up on the grammar, I think its the first step to even becoming a great actor, take a cue from Ramsey Noah, at least he speaks pretty good english, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett and a very few others. Bella, we really dont need to become totally redundant in our thinking or have any writer or producer diminish our intellectual capacity as it were.

that beyonce nd rihanna movie just killed it.....naija movies r the best yo!lol.....but seriously y was jim iyke Jay Z??? lol...
ReplyDeleteDO YOU ALL THINK THAT OMOTOLA KNEW WHAT THE NAME OF THE MOVIE WAS BEFORE SHE AGREED TO ACT IN IT. THE OWNERS OF THE FILMS CHOOSE TITLES AFTER IT HAS BEEN SHOT AND FLY WITH IT. IF YOU WATCH THE FILM, THEE WAS NOBODY NAMED BEYONCE AND NEITHER WAS ANYONE NAME RHIANNA.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this is a lawsuit waiting to happen!
ReplyDeletefunny ur bloggin bout the beyonce and rihanna movie.saw the poster on a very bad day and believe me... i smiled. wot's up wit this nollywood people. i'm even more shocked at omotola for being in the movie. Jesus take the wheel!!!
