THE BN RUNDOWN

Hello Everyone,
I'm not going to say too much about all the tidbits I have for you.
Just read and enjoy.
Here is the RUNDOWN!!!!

________________________________________________
A huge congrats to Dare and Deola Art-Alade! Deola recently delivered their first child, a bouncing baby boy in the UK on Friday, December 28, 2007. By the way, Dare's eagerly anticipated new album, unDAREted will be coming out sometime soon. I have heard several cuts from the album and I have to say I was sooo impressed. I like the depth and variety of the songs. The video for the 1st single, 'With This Woman' has been doing very well and has been a stable on the MTVBase Africa Top 10 Chart for some weeks. Wishing Dare, Deola and baby all the best in '08.

As you have probably heard, Tuface and his baby mama #1 Pero Adeniyi are expecting his 3rd child. Their first child together is a cute little girl called Rose (named after Tuface's mum). Pero also has another child from her first marriage while Tuface has another child named Nino with ex-girlfriend Sunmbo. Hmm...no comment.

Most people who read the Nigerian newspapers on New Year's Day were shocked by the headlines which recounted the shooting of over 20 people by militants in Port Harcourt, Nigeria during the early hours of 2008. Many died but one of those who survived was West African Idols winner, Timi Dakolo. He was shot in the head as he was driving away from the Presidential Hotel where he and some other entertainment personalities had performed. According to reports, he was not the target of the attack and is presently recuperating well in a private hospital.
Its so sad! I hope he recovers soon. Get well Timi!

Random news but hey...
Nigerian rapper and First Lady of Storm Records, Sasha has undergone a name change from Sasha to Sasha P (...The P is for Persona right?)
We are not sure what inspired this name change but if Diddy can go from Puff Daddy to Puffy to P Diddy to Diddy to Sean Combs...then why cant Sasha add a P?
I'm luvin' her new album by the way.

Celebrity Takes 2 Contestant and Musician, Nomoreloss (Olumuyiwa Adeyemi Oshinuga) is allegedly engaged to his girlfriend, Rhythm 93.7 radio DJ, Phoenix Child (Adeola Ogunriola). Congrats to the couple.

I just realized that I never said congrats to Funlola on her Celebrity Takes 2 win.
The actress/media personality/entrepreneur received an SUV (Not sure what brand but NOT a Hummer as was announced during the show finale). She also received a cash prize from Skye Bank. The stunning 30-something year old Funlola is reportedly engaged and was spotted wearing an engagement ring during the last few episodes of the show. Congrats to Funlola on everything. I love her resilience and drive.

P-Square's Peter and Paul Okoye along with their brother, Jude and UK-Nigerian rapper, Alaye survived a rough car crash on the 26th of December 2007. They were on their way from Port Harcourt to Owerri when the accident occured. Luckily they escaped with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle suffered serious injuries but is presently undergoing treatment. P-Square still managed to perform their scheduled shows after the incident including a massive concert in Zambia. They'll be holding a thanksgiving ceremony soon.

There seems to be no love lost between Omotola and the organizers and judges of Celebrity Takes 2. She has accused the judges of being nasty and stated that the show was disorganized while the organizers has stated that Omotola showed poor sportsmanship. See this interview for more details. I know some will disagree but I think Omotola did well on the show, not because she was the best dancer but because she gave it a try despite her crazy schedule. Oh well, I hope they can sort out their differences.

Congrats to fast-rising Nigerian musician/producer, 9ice and fiance, entrepreneur Toni Payne. The pair recently announced their engagement. 9ice who is oft called the 'Nigerian Akon' has one of the hottest songs on Nigerian radio right now. The song called 'Gongo Aso' will be included on his new album entitled 'Street Credibility' and the video will be shot by music video director extraordinaire, DJ Tee. All the best to the couple!

Oh I should have mentioned this a few months ago when it happened but better late than never. Eldee got engaged to his longtime girlfriend a lil' while back. Congrats to him! Sure the wedding will be fab & all the best with the marriage. Eldee's album 'Return of the King' which was released internationally in 2007 will allegedly be relaunched in Nigeria in 2008.

I'm sure you've heard the Eedris Abdulkareem, the Nigerian rapper and former member of the Remedies apologized to American HipHop star, 50 Cent during the KORA Awards media presentation in Abuja in December. If you can remember, 50 and Eedris had an altercation aboard a plane some years ago when 50 visited the country to perform. After the incident, 50 fled Nigeria thus missing out on the last leg of his scheduled Nigerian concerts. This therefore resulted in losses and embarrassment for the sponsors and organizers of the event. At that time, Eedris was so proud of his misbehaviour that he boldly spoke about it and went as far as releasing a 'diss track' aimed at 50. Eedris' career nosedived after the incident and all this led to his apology. You can watch the video below. Fast forward to the last couple of seconds...
Well it seems like someone is eating humble pie!

who is Dare????? never heard of him. there's something wrong with their picture....its unusually glossy.

2face should seriously consider reverse castration. it will be a temporary solution to his problem.

how come that Dude was hot in the heard. mannnn, that's deep

and who might sasha P be. she does not look like a rapper kraaa

who is that gbeng child. why did he marry his wife if he her father sexually assualted her. Does Obasanjo not have a wife now. what happend the mothers of his illegimate children. are they not available to shag him. besides, he's old, i don't think he has any manpower left

Good job bella keep it up love :-)

the gbenga story is infact very disgusting..i was cringing while reading it..eeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!

to all you girls that want to get married quickly because of stupid reasons like "oh my mates are getting married i dont want to be left out", or "he's rich" or "i gatta so follow the marriage trend", or "society is putting pressure on me" you better think twice...divorce rates in naij are very high cos of stupid things like this..dont ever marry for the wrong reasons.

err sorry bella i had to let this off my chest..unfortunately it had to be ur blog:-)

  17. This Gbenga might have some mental health issue, paranoia or Schizophrenia of some sorts. It's one thing to say his soon to be ex's father abused her but her shagging his father, incredible story. At the very least his mental status should be ruled out. He might need help.

  19. Anonymous9:36 AM

    Great update Bella.

The tabloids picked up on Gbenga Obasanjo's claims.

I think it's a bit harsh for you to assume his claims are lies. I'm a practising barrister in London and i have seen the most unusual allegations which turned out to be true. There is nothing unusual about his claims.

Also, the fact that her dad allegedly sexually abused her is not unusual either in this sad and depraved world we live in.

Besides, many men chase their son's wives/girlfriends. It's sad but true.

I don't agree with KOSHIE (1.55am) who asked why Gbenga married Moji when he knew her dad abused her. Since when did a sexually abusive childhood exclude you from being a good wife and mother?

We are only commenting about this because these people are in the public eye. Lawyers file claims like this every minute of the day.

Divorce is usually ugly when the courts have to get involved.

Bella mama mia. You always have the lowdown ... girl! cool!

Tuface is living in a world of his own. Nuff respct! PSquare i believe that God is with them. Oruko Jesu. Amin. EL D has fully paid his dues from Jos to USof A, he deserves the credit that he is getting.

Toni Payne is a chick, she got what is rightfully hers'. Dare Art Alade and his Aristo wife and baby. More to them! Omotola is a cool chick but i think she should be mindful of how she exposes her extravagance it is better that she sticks to her talents and the arts. Funlola is my baby - no lesbian admiration, she is mature and classy and congrats to her on her engagement. Way to go girl! Eedris is taking care of business. How nice!

Take care Miss Bella. Expecting more gist. As always; fab!

I am sure u saw the embarassment on 50's face.. and EEDris looked ridiculous as ridiculous can be.
Why on earth will they put that on national TV?

Nice work u gat going here..
U might need to consider publishing ur blog.

Congrats to Dare & Deola, children are a blessing no matter the circumstances surrounding their birth... even for 2face and that chick Pero. But he better watch himself before his dick falls off or Pero cuts it off for him y'all know she crazy.

Mehn I didn't realize Omotola had such fire, wow.

Congrats to all the newly engaged couples. I suspect your wedding websites will be up sooner or later :D

As for Gbenga, I'm actually very surprised he always seemed like a nice person; but to publicize something your wife confided in you is sad. Maybe ladybrille is right and he has lost a few screws in the past few years, because at first he was complaining she no sabi cook now she's screwing his popsie? Maybe some of what is he's saying is true, but there has to be a way to amicably resolve their issues. May God help them.

i cant believe this whole gbenga and moji saga!his utterances are outrageous and obviously lies!i remember when this two got married it was so beautiful..how can everything just turn sour...

Bella i have alwyas admired your blog for the updatse on latest things in 9ja...but pls i dont think u should be putting such gists on ur page!yeah u didnt generate the gist but it spreads it further!just my two cents!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with the lawyer's comments on the gbenga & Moji saga. I don't think Gbenga is mad neither do I condone what he has done, but this is the ugly side of divorce. I went through it at age 13. My parents started writing disclaimers able each other, amongst other things. 17yrs later, the consequences of their actions are still with us. Unfortunatly, this is what bitterness causes.

I heard it was Moji that started the whole court thing. She wanted
N400M as divorce settlement. She was also barely 22yrs when she got married!

Bella you are right to blog about THE saga. These issues exist in our society and confronting them is the best way to overcome them.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous10:45 PM

I think its very digusting of you to have put that up U. Its easy to remark and discuss this because it has nothing to do with you. Think of the families involved, and the lives this has thrown upside down. Gbenga is the lowest of the low and He will get his. Moji will recover from these lies, but those with bitterness in their hearts will be consumed by it. Dont judge, dont propagate these lies. Mind your business and stick to stories that dont do harm to anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous12:08 AM

@ anon Gbenga might not have exercised what the rest of us consider to be great judgment during this obviously emotional and painful time in his life, but he's far from the lowest of the low. Besides some of the allegations made in her affidavits aren't necessarily the truth either.

Bella you're right, let's all make sure we're getting married for the right reasons, not just getting blinded by the love we think we feel for the other or the lure of the lifestyle promised through certain unions or fulfilling parental obligations.

  41. hmmm, that Gbenga Obasanjo story is nassssty.
And the Timi issue is really sad

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous1:14 AM

The Gbenga issue is really disgraceful but i dont think we should cast aspersions at him afterall he did not grant an interview to a paper. Those things were found in the petition he filed. Besides who are we to say if the moji girl did not do those things. In Nigeria e like pretending such does not happen even when we know they do.
The peeps i feel sorry 4 are d kids. imagine when they google their parents names these are the stuffs they will get 2 read.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous2:02 AM

i know both parties involved in the crazy divorce saga personally. knowing gbenga since i was a child and went to high school with moji. Gbenga is crazy, cause I know someone he had accused of sleeping with moji while they were still married...nothing of such happened, moji on the other hand has her own faults but believe me, Gbenga is pyscho like his father.....anyone that knows the obasanjo's family very well can testify......apology to deboye.just had to say that if u ever read this.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous4:10 AM

oo! i like this blog..my first time here..il be back...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous7:17 AM

I think they need to check Gbenga's mental state. I feel terribly for Moji. How can a spouse you must have loved to some extent to marry turn around to say all this about you and in public..it makes you think hard about Marriage.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous7:19 AM

Chioma in London..its not the matter of the stories being true or not...such linens should not be washed in public..especially not in front of the entire Nigeria.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous8:35 AM

@bella, there is absolutely nothing out there about what gbenga obasanjo has claimed, after all truth is stranger than fiction. you want to say you have never heard of ppl abused by their fathers, or women who sleep with father and son and even brother sef?

i do not know any of the parties personally or even from tabloids sef, i only remember the dude saying his wife could not cook. but whether or not it is true, such should not be made public haba, the mother of his kids.

ps Obasanjo has a rep anyway

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous11:51 AM

Bella, your blog is classy keep it that way. Leave the tabloid gossip to Linda Ikeji.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous12:07 PM

Hi Bella. My 2 cents ... to what anon @ 11:51 rightly said, "it is best for u to stick to what you rightly enjoy - which is fashion" I believe that is why you are a fashionista.

I am not saying this out of malice or bad bele. But out of what will not make you loose your credibility amongst other. You know what i mean!

I am not sure pple like their business being made public and you are; sistah girl a public figure. Why i am saying this is that what attracted me to your blog is the fashion side of things. And to read about celebrities private lives??? Well ... at the end of the day ... it's your blog and i guess you know what you are doing. Just adding my 2 cents o!

And i hope it is not hurting anybody. If yes! ... then i am sorry. Just thought that you might want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey everyone,

    Thanks for your comments!
You know I dont back down or side step things but I thought about this a lot last night and even though what is going on is very public (after all it was on several national newspaper covers during the weekend), there is no point pushing the issue further.

I dont believe in censorship but I dont want my blog to unintentionally promote negativity. The intention of the person who made those accusations was to hurt others through public display of the issues so I dont want to further assist his cause.
Plus I dont want to turn this into a gossip blog. If I wanted to, y'all know it'll be juicy but I really dont see the value in such things.

So, I've taken down that bit & link but I still think there is a lesson to be learned and I stand by my comment on marriage especially in Nigeria. Ask God for guidance before you leap.

Thanks for your honest comments people.

    Stay blessed.

@bella, i was anonymous that posted at 2.02am. You made a wise decision to retract that post. I truly enjoy reading your blog. A lot of people that commented on the Gbenga and Moji's saga expressed their opinions. Some are agree with, some i don't. You are right about what you said about marriage especially in Nigeria context. Divorce or breakup involving child(ren) could be ugly and malicious.
Let us that are married or about to be pray that convenant of marriage that God made between man and woman should not be broken in our marriage. Am sure that moji or gbenga never prayed for this to happen to them, it is sad that the society also compounded their issues to point that is now plain ugly and pathetic.

  53. Anonymous4:20 PM

back to being your chicken self, I see. You were not the one that made the comments about GO, why apologize? You are simply sharing public knowledge and updating us about the "state of affairs" in naija. I am not condoning starting rumors but for God's sake, this is a story that was all over the news or did I miss the memo were this was strictly a fashion blog. enough said. quite disappointing. It would help to get a backbone, Bella. I'm sure you gave some thought before your original post.

Nice post. Of all the stories you posted, most comments are on the marriage and baby-related ones. That tells that most of your readers are in the engagement-frenzy(marriage/"i-want-to-settle-down-o) category themselves. I find that hilarious...killing off time on bella naija till Mr right proposes(or till you force it out of him).lol...thot i'd tease you all lonely spinsters a bit.

The Art-Alades. Nice pic. Deola sure looks a lot nicer (and younger)than the last pic of her posted.

    Just a question

If Obasanjo couple were from less influential or poorer backgrounds, would the self appointed blog police care? There have scandals posted in the past and the links were reposted with glee. I guess status counts when fighting for decency. I detected an almost threatening note towards Bella is some the the "desist" posts. Bloody cheek.

Well Bella kudos to you for taking the links down before your blog is jammed with the smoking debris of yet another cyber spat. Anyone with half a brain can google or pick up a paper and read.

Let our blog police focus thier pious efforts on getting the feuding couple to stop spreading thier business all over the street. They have no one but themselves to blame for the publicity. May God those poor the kids.

Bella, do you know that Funmi Iyanda has a post on Gbenga & Moji. More detailed than yours was- expressing her opinion. Why do you let people push you around? Comments about their relationship belong more on your blog than Funmi's blog anyday, anytime. Yet she wasn't scared to voice her opinions. I agree with anon that said-get a backbone, damn! and I also sensed the threatening tone of some people telling you to remove it..lol. The story is everywhere, even on thisdayonline.com (mind you, a "serious" newspaper).

Did any of couple anticipate all this unnecessary and horrible public display of their private life...or is this their own understanding of Love when they were joined in Holy matrimony...What manner of love is this, plus are they considering the effects this will have on their innocent children...Both parties are Shameless regardless of whatever!!!!

  68. Happy New year Bella! your blog has always been a positive place, its cool indeed that you removed that piece since it had negativity "radiating" from it(that thing dey disgusting, trashy and irritating abeg).

@anon 8:23, since the news is everywhere then you guys are not missing out on much are you?

@anon 2:25: I am all for diversity, and I come here too for entertainment news but don't forget that Bella is the owner of this blog and she alone can decide what kind of stories go up, so lets all respect that.

@all anons, those you that believe that bella has no backbone or she chicked out by retracting the post, i think you all misunderstood her point. It has nothing to do with having backbone or not having backbone. I believe it was a matter of what was important for her to keep on her blog or not. Like i said before i applaud you for retracting the post. Those that one to dwell on the Gbenga and Moji's saga should go to other blog that blogged about it and leave bella to her choice of what she does with her blog. Let all act like civilize pple that we are and let drop the name calling, it is uncall for. Those that believed that the Obasanjo's saga shows lack of shame or manners, shouldnot be quick to throw stone cause you never know how you are going to act if you find urself in such situation. Please let not judge,so that we are not judged. Like i said in comments earlier, i know both parties involved and am sure they didn't intend to ridicule themselve or their kids like this, but sometime in ugly situation, if you don't have good guidiance you can go wrong with your action even if you have the right reasons. The society also didn't help their matters. It is sad and pathetic. Let us all learn a lesson from their mistakes and not rejoice in it.

    @Waffarian,

you must have forgotten not everyone inhere is named Anons. i posted the comment of 2.25am and my name is Ronkiebaby. pls research ur facts well before jumping guns. also why say Bella alone has the perogative of whatever story gets poststed on her site. if so, how come some fanatics pressurized her into deleting an original story of hers i.e. the gbenga obasanjo divorce saga on her blog? Waffarian, you are one of the extremists on this site that think you have a better sense of judgement as to what deserves to be posted or not. since you do not like reading about such news as gbenga obasanjo's, why not choose then to visit other blogs that do not feature such. there are loads of blogs on the home page of bella naija and not all featured this particular story. bella originally posted it as one of her story features until some of you holier than thou decided to start shouting cruxify her, and then she rushed to take it off!

  71. @ronkiebaby, "anon" is the short form for anonymous. I referred to you as "anon 2:25".

As I said earlier, I agreed with you that people come here for all sorts of gist abi? so what is the problem? all I said is that Bella had the right to put up or remove any post she deems fit.

I had already read about the Obasanjo saga before coming here, so It would not have made a difference to me if she put it up or not. I only applauded her for trying to maintain a positive space. What is wrong with that?

Anyway, Bella's blog dey kampe, with or without that gist. Make una take am easy, life no hard like that.

For starters Funmi Iyanda is a talk show host. That gives her an edge because the same people being talked about might one day appear on her show "New Dawn" to clarify some issues.

And Bella where does she fit in? Have we really asked ourselves these questions? She specified in her blog complete profile that she is a fashionista so that doesn't make her a soft sell magazine journalist or "This Day" magazine journalist. So. Maybe we can help her to separate the two to gain a better understanding of what our rants are.

I am not asking everyone to agree with me. It is just a suggestion. Thanks.
