THE RUNDOWN

Hey Everyone!!!
How was your weekend? Mine was actually really good, even though I couldn’t do all the stuff I planned on doing but it still turned out pretty well.
So what did you get up to?
I am always sooooo gutted when I realize that Monday is only a few hours away! Back to work, back to work...ohhh I just remembered that I have a work training thing for the next couple of days so I am going to be in a hotel in the middle of nowhere…oh well!
Anyways, lets get down to the business….
It’s another RUNDOWN!

Weddings
Congrats to the couples. One word - GORGEOUS
Ndidi & Uzoma - Wedding Photos
Banke & Bolaji - Wedding Website

Richard wins Big Brother Africa II
Richard Bezuidenhout has won Big Brother Africa II. Despite the sexual assault allegation scandal, Richard still scooped the $100,000 prize. Ofunneka came second and Tatiana came third. Congrats to him, I just hope the allegations are not true and the 'activities' with Ofunneka were consensual but I still have my reservations.

Munachi @ Miss World Pageant
MBGN Munachi Nwankwo-Abii celebrated her birthday at the Miss World 2007 pageant. Congrats girl! Wish her the best at the pageant. View Munachi's interview from Funmi Iyanda's Dawn on 10.

Tara Fela-Durotoye OUT of Celebrity Takes 2
Tara Fela-Durotoye is the 1st celebrity to be voted off Celebrity Takes 2.
Read updates on Celebrity Takes 2 on Reality-Unbiased Blog
Check out an interview with Tara from the Punch on Sunday

D'Banj @ the MTV Europe Video Music Awards
It's no longer news that D'Banj won the Best African Act at the MTV Europe Video Music Awards but what IS news is the kokolistic (yes, that's a word!) poses D'Banj decided to unleash on the press. Click on the 1st pic to check it out. Congrats to him anyways.

I-G-N-O-R-A-N-C-E
I read this article and it just pissed me off so much. What is even more disturbing is that it was written by a woman! Nigeria really has a long way to go. The press especially should start realizing their impact on society. The ignorance demonstrated in this short article is very damning. Click the photo below or read the quote below.

''Some ladies present were raped, while some luckily escaped. Surprised? You shouldn't be. But need we blame the rapists? What with the dressing of some of the girls, who were scantly dressed?''
See how she flippantly said women were raped and then went on to 'blame' them for dressing scantily, as if they deserved it!!! Jesus Take the Wheel.

Kanye West's Mum Dies
She allegedly died from an allergic reaction to medicine while getting a breast augmentation and tummy tuck. Reminds me of Stella Obasanjo RIP.

That's it for today! Have a fab week....

  3. I saw that article too, and I also blogged about it on my Vox blog. Women will continue to be their own worst enemy. Even if a woman is NAKED, it does not give any man the right to violate her simply because he's horny. That's what baby oil is for, and that's that!

  4. Wow I'm in the top five. I'm thrilled
Dbanj rocks! And thats too sad what happened at Tu Face's party. Too sad

Okay enough "mushyness" for one day..lol..to other things, i loved Miss MBGN's interview with Funmi Iyanda, she's a very beautiful girl yet humble, a now rare trait u don't find in most chicks.

As per Tara getting voted off...Why people?? Why??...lol..its all good sha..I would have voted for her if i was in Gidi... unfortunately ...i'm not! Anywayz it was worth a try, now its time to put up the dancing shoes and pick up your brush honey.

And to conclude my Yarn...God rest Ms West Soul, Saw an interview she had on BET a while back and i thought she looked great...why she opted to get chopped up like a piece of steak is beyond me....I hope this serves as a wake-up call...its time we start loving our flaws...its high time we start loving ourselves.

Oh and big-ups to my boy the Koko master...knew its was matter of time b4 his efforts got him recognized....keep churning out those hits baby..u definately going places.

  10. The TuFce story irritated the hell out of me. There is no justification for rape. It's like saying people get robbed cos they have money. Women, when wil we stand for ourselves.

I almost lost my mind too when I found out that pervert won BBA. Goes to show where Africans' minds have gone. Ofunneka should have won, patriotism aside.

    TU Face's Party
To think that the woman who even wrote the piece is a journalist for the The Punch is so sad cos i felt that journalists are supposed to be objective. When i first read the story i just assumed it was a guy(cos they are always the ones who come up with the stupid excuses) but what saddens me is that it was coming from a woman.Even if a woman decides to walk around the whole of lagos bleeding naked no man has the right to rape her.

    Flipping shame o!!

    Hi Bella,
its been a while since i've been on here!
read the Punch article and damn near flipped!very ignorant and lazy writing, no follow-up, was the police called?what happened to the ladies who geot raped? just a daft article- the chick who writes it is some razzite called Adaeze Moses, she's also responsible for all those daft questions like so why are yo not married? that ppl get asked when being interviewed by Punch!
As for Miss Nigeria, I WAS NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!! Her poise was zero, what was with all the slangs/slippiing in and out of some accent, mumbling and then saying thing like 'stuff like that'- geez, she could have been more articulate-give me Funmi Iyanda's (yoruba) accent any day, just speak CLEARLY, INTELLIGENTLY and WITH PASSION...
what else?love tara thought the interviewer asked some stupid questions and loved the way she parried them.

  18. Ohh i had ot re-read and come back.
Sorry Kanye's mother dies (Supposed causes unknown).
    Well done D'Banj

Tuface should accept responsibility for the things that happen at his party and the fact that a woman wrote that BS? Bella i agree. Na nonsense. May she not get raped one day before she learns it is not what you wear but the actions of the oloriburuku rapist.

Ohh and i noticed you were just keeping up with weddings not actually attending. Unless you flew to Nig without telling (hmmmm)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bella, pls have you got the punch author's email, i need to tell her a few home truths, why a lot of nigerian women are so backwards remains a mystery. I have heard similar lines so many times from women but didnt think that a supposed educated journalists could be so stupid.

the lady who wrote the article needs to be educated. she clearly does not know or understand what "rape" is.

If someone drives a flashy car and his car is stolen, no one says to him - "oh well, you should not have been driving a nice car"

If someone lives in a nice house and armed robbers go to his house, no one says "oh well, you should not have been living in a nice house"

So why o why is it that when a woman gets raped, people say "oh well, you should not have been wearing those clothes?"

Like other people have stated, one´s dressing should never be used as a justification for such a violation. When something is wrong we should accept that it is wrong and not try to justify the wrongdoer´s actions.

It is sickening that in this world, there are people who go about saying things like "should we blame the rapists" - what kind of daft quation is that? May be if that lady was the one of the people rape victims, she would be asking a different question.

  26. That stupid editor should be jailed. Ewu.

  27. Anonymous10:21 PM

If someone has money and gets robbed it is not their fault. True. BUT if you FLAUNT that money in the Wrong environment…. You are practically begging to be robbed…..

Ok Tuface’s survival party…lets see the environment: Men, alcohol, “scantily clad” women, violence, more alcohol…….what do you expect……it’s like throwing meat to a hungry lion while it is in search for food….. Something bad is bound to happen.

Don’t all bash the poor journalist. Bottom line ………….Women ought to respect themselves. If you run around in little to no clothes, I’m sure guys are not thinking this chick wants to go to the library. So please Respect yourselves………………

    Take that for controversy.

  28. Loved the interview with Funmi Iyanda...hopefully the MBGN will go far in the Ms. World contest...

Ehen, that article was soooo ignorant, and u're right, the press in Nigeria must understand the characteristics of the media, and what they "can" and "cannot" say...

    R.I.P. Kanye's mum...sad, at 58...

    (thanks bella)...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Expansion of my statement: sometimes the media can be right about certain issues...for instance some women that get raped may really have been scantily dressed, but then again...that doesn't mean that they DESERVED rape. So it is not about "what's the truth," is really about "how you present the truth."

And not all women should be generalized into one category such as, "women are raped because of how they dress." How abt women who weren't raped because of how they were dressed?

    What a pant!

Moving along, Kanye's moms issue was so sad. May her soul rest in peace. Kanye must be devastated. He loved that woman to death.

    ReplyDelete
  34. To Anonymous: No wonder you decided to comment as anonymous, because you said something that totally infuriates me. There is a time and place for everything, and like it or not, but an industry party by an entertainment artiste is a place where it IS appropriate for a woman to be scantily dressed if she so wishes. She is not BEGGING for anything. It is utterly stupid to say that by dressing a certain way, a woman is begging the men around to rape her, because by doing so, the author of that article is also implying that Nigerian men are uncontrollable beasts, ruled solely by their emotions, impulses, and natural urges. In other words, they are worse than some of the worse animals then, if they are unable to control themselves in the sight of an attractive female.

Are your men like that? I know mine aren't. I'm sure a lot of people that read this blog agree with me, and not just women. We are human beings, and our men should act like human men, not mindless creatures.

Somebody catch that writer and flog her...

  45. Lovely other stuff but that last bit just about did me in…

That's really the biggest problem with our country, Its stupid articles like this that allow our uncles, dads, brothers and freaking strange men off the road to keep raping our women who will 4eva remain silent because society has told her ... "look at what u wore? Now don't u think u brought it upon u'reself". Utter nonsense if u ask me and she had the nerve to say “ the party continued till dawn”. I’m sooo mad right now.
