WEDDING DRESSES - MADE IN NIGERIA

Hey people!
How is your week going? Gosh...its sooooo boring this week, absolutely nothing is happening.
No awards, no fashion shows! No bellanaija?
Anyways, thanks for still checking up on me despite the slow updates.
I was flipping through a Nigerian wedding magazine and noted that some of the Nigerian-branded Wedding Dresses looked really good! I was impressed....
Have a look at some of my favourites and let me know what you think.

So for your wedding, would you be willing to go with a Nigerian-made/branded wedding dress or are you strictly for the Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier etc...My fave from the bunch is the Mon-Ami dress.
Also, are you one of those women who has completely planned out her wedding even without being engaged or having a bf? Dont be shy, share the details with us!
Have a fabulous day....Ciao!

Wedding. That you should say! I have three to attend and I will be a bridesmaid in one.Have I planned my wedding in advance? No. Can't be bothered with the stress. Wedding planners are there for a reason.lol! But convinced its got to be by the beach when I get there. Love the designs but when its my turn, prefer traditional fabrics, maybe white aso oke, designed into modern bridal silhouettes. Have a great day. Off to start mine.

  6. Bella, omo you have me figured out!!! I know don't tell me....i'm psychotic right? What kind of chick has her entire wedding planned out, and i mean every freaking "detail" down to the china, table linens, colors.... yet lacks a man to make the "fairytale" wedding dream come true???....lol...i'm in dire need of an intervention...lol..but can you really blame me?? With a party crazed mother itching to give me away to the next available suitor breathing down my back and our alarming obsession with stalking wedding websites at an all time high...it leaves single chicks little to do but imagine what thier wedding would turn out like.

Its the begining of a new era, the pressure is on....whether you choose to ackowledge it or not, there is an insane "wedding fever" going on out there...Wouldn't advise anyone to get caught up in the hype and jump into marriage without thinking though...but if you have found your soul-mate...then i say go all out and have yourself a slamming wedding(even if it means filing chapter 11 after the wedding is over...lol). Okay so i have totally digressed from the topic...now to answer your question....i will rather opt for a dress made here in the states (doesn't have to be Vera Wang, Monique Lhuiller, or Alexander Mcqueen...i love designer duds but i'm certainly not a label whore)...i can settle for a regular Oleg Cassini gown from David's Bridal and still look fabulous in it....its about the detail and fit not how much the gown cost.....okay enough said! Great post bella! keep them coming.

  7. lol..Bella ure funny oh...Lol @ "are you one of those women who has completely planned out her wedding even without being engaged or having a bf?"

I have envisioned my wedding dress oh, and im as single as they come..lol..but i havent totally planned the whole thing..(emm, well, except i know the ring i want, i know my choice of flowers, music, meal plan, including appertifs and dessert, hmm, i know the decor i want too...)..lol..but i still dont have the whole thing planned out though...

  8. Okay, i sooo have to yarn another nonsense b4 i carry my yansh commot for here. Can someone please tell me what is up with that "BUN" i see on every bride's head in naija...seriously that darm hairstyle is starting to irk the shit out of me..(i know its hot and all and it makes sense to put your hair in an up-do...but does it have to be a stupid side bun????..whatever happened to a french twist or a good 'ol fashion ponytail??)..I was in two weddings last year in Gidi and on both occasions we (i.e the bridesmaids) were forced to wear our hair like that...go to Bobbys and those silly stylists would tell you "Aunty, that is the reigning style right now"....uhn???? since when?? who made it so?? i don't see every one in the states wearing the same shit on thier head just because some chick wore hers like that and it looks good on her....i despise that annoying "follow follow" mentality we have in naija...whatever happened to being creative??? And the worst part is i have seen some chicks who that style didn't quite suit their face still rawking that tight-ass chignon....kilode???? na by force??? okay now i'm done venting....lol

yo bella, ur blog is still worth checking for 'back issues' tho i'm glad u've updated...
i actually spent the few minutes b4 i slept yesterday night ,thinking like 'hmmm, i wonder who bella really is' what does she look like,etc-crazy thts how much ur blog has grown on me...
from my wedding coming up soon, na one thing to plan,na anoda thing for plan to work, its good to daydream until you are thrown into the frenzy of trying to find 8 dresses for 8 different sizes of girls!!! or when the hall u wanted to use don becomeN950k(lagos civic center on ozumba)
...missy tutsy...abeg allow others make them 'bun'.its prolly an updo most times cos u know how stringy weaveon can become if ur hair is down with all the sweating and spraying...but u r right it foesnt suit all faces...i think its an ok style so long as ur hair is completely relaxed ..no roborobo hair at the neck -y'na mean?
btw bella i've read this particular mag, its very good and practical for naija brides unlike those boring modern brides-sandal resort ad mags!

the bridesmaids dresses are hella cute!
the wedding dresses are nice too oh! it will definitely be nice to have a custom made wedding dress, so therefore made by naija isn't such a bad idea in my opinion.

  13. Anonymous6:23 PM

Like 90% of the females out there, my wedding is planned and the more weddings I go to the more ideas I have. (i'm not engaged yet though.. still throwing the hints) I was all about vera wang before but seeing how talented our Naija designers are, I"ll have to say forget vera wang.

Naija has gone through a fashion and entertainment revolution. I just wish the goverment will do the same. Then we can all hide our blue passports and flaunt the green one all the way back home.

  14. I have my wedding not completely planned out. At the rate its going though i'm guessing that it would be totally planned out very soon. the funny thing is that by the time its all done, i hope i would have a guy to put in the empty space marked "Groom".....I'm working on my music right now and that is actually taking long bcos then i always come across a nicer song.
I have a whole journal oh and really its fun and i dnt see any harm in it.
As for wedding dresses its always been Oleg Cassini but i'm digging the Naija brands...wouldn't mind diverting. I like the idea that s'one shared of using Aso-oke to make the dress its very traditional but till then now we go see.
The pictures are great. thanks for sharing!

half of these dresses will not meet pastors wife approval and you'll have to throw wrappers over your shoulders in church, because God forbid people actually see your shoulders.
I mean i guess a wedding dress is a wedding dress, but these designs are less detailed versions of the overly expensive designers like Lhullier/DiSanto/Lazaro et al (can you tell I've been to one too many bridal trunk shows?)
I don't see how people plan the weddings, i mean just thinking about the costs break me out in a sweat.

JWEvents is absolutely wonderful. Not only is the owner -Molara Akinosho mad passionate, she's very talented (naturally), caring and down to earth. I would recommend her to all discerning brides. She's on her way to being the top event planner in Naija. :) and yes she's planning my wedding.

The dresses are pretty. I don't really care who makes my wedding dress( and that excludes Iya Sulikatu the neighbourhood tailor).I'm up for anyone who can mastermind one embodied with my idea of the purrrrfect details.

I'm pretty happy to read this post. i just realized I was getting bored with the Celebrity posts *wink*

I have a mental catalogue of bridal dresses, hall arrangements and colors, bridemaids shoes etc, and believe it or not my Mr.'s mental flow is more detailed than mine.lol; talk about a valiant bachelor ehy?

Seen Molara's work..FAB..so i guess I will use her too..
Well i guess I can confidently say that me too i have dreams...lol
Loving the Mon Ami dress..but to get married in Naija would i need some sort of shrug or covering??..damn it!!!
@Yetty..yeah she hooked up traditionally earlier on this year, apparently plans for a white wedding are in the works...she is now Nike Soleye..good luck to her sha.

Nice post Bella as usual!!..have a FAB and less stressful weekend ahead

  34. Lovely post. I have been in so many weddings lately with a few more to go this year. Being around so many wedding dresses sourced abroad. With what's going on in Nigeria, i think i am leaning towards a dress done by a Nigerian designer. I love Yemi Kosibah's designs but Mon Ami and Elizabeth Phillips are not bad as well.

Turns out one of the occasions i attended in last year with my dawgs was organized by this babe.....if any one is getting hitched in naija, i give her my 100% recommendation. Her work is actually prettier in life than what shown in the pictures....she did one hell of a job with the Muson center hall. Very creative.
Okay since y'all are throwing out websites left right and center,...here is one for your viewing pleasure....(a family friends') i actually didn't attend this nuptials but Moms did last year in Naija...she has the best website i have seen so far....

Well how about I happened to be in a conversation with some 'nice hot dude' ;) and he said his favorite color was NAVY BLUE and I practically choked on my drink and started laughing. To Anon 8:51 PM- There are several other wedding/event planners other than JW Events ,however, JW is the best. They don't play and she has real talent, not just some chic who happens to have some money and hires ppl to put stuff together and uses the same ol' draping. She's creative, classy, professional, efficient and talented, we all know you just can't buy class. Sorry to bring this up again but let's give credit where credit's due. :)

I just checked out this website www.damisandtoyin.wedquarters.com. Her dress is so beautiful, I'm a sucker for anything beautiful, different and out of the norm and this dress fits all that beautifully. I wonder who made her dress?

these dresses are gorgeous! i was tempted to ask why nigerians shop abroad then i remembered my cousin's wife saying (when they were about to get married)nigerian designers charge an arm and a leg for their wedding dresses so she wanted us to buy her one from the uk or the states. i bet these dresses aren't cheap at least not compared to some mega bargains one can bag at david's bridal in the states for example. nevertheless, i am proud of my people because, i have to say it once again, these dresses are gorgeous. i found myself particularly drawn to the peppermint dress and i know my husband would have loved it but i am obiously already married.
