~INDEPENDENCE~

Hey Everyone,
Happy Independence Day in arrears!!!!!
Soooo what did u guys get up to?
Let me give you my gist. See I haven’t gone out in ages!!!!! I cannot even believe it! Once upon a time it was a very different story…lol
Anyways, on Friday, I was supposed to go for this lil’ shindig with my friend, Miss M. I was sooooo exhausted but I still managed to drag myself up to get ready…
After applying the MAC and things....I wore the outfit and just sat down waiting….I was still a lil’ tired so I carefully decided to take a nap….anyways…long story short…I fell sleep and didn’t wake up till 11.30AM on Saturday…the other side of the story is my friend, Miss M didn’t call sooooo she stood me up! Even if I had been awake she would have been a ‘No-Show’!.....imagine…lol…its all good tho…
So what did I do on Independence Day? I went to church and did some serious prayers for Nigeria….lol…seriously tht’s what that country needs!
Anyway, let’s get down to our usual ‘bellanaijaing’

*************************************************************************************
Did anyone get a chance to watch the Miss Word 2006 pageant on Saturday?
I didn’t! Well, just to fill you in, Miss Nigeria, Abiola Bashorun didn’t win the competition. She didn’t win the ‘Miss World Africa’ crown either, that went to Miss Angola - Stiviandra Oliveira. Miss Ghana - Lamisi Mbillah won the ‘Beauty With A Purpose Award’ for her passionate charity work in Ghana focused on eradicating iodine deficiency and Guinea Worm.
Here are some of Abiola’s pics from during the pageant.
You can also watch her video profile HERE and see my previous feature on her HERE.

Let us know how ur weekend went and what you think about the Miss World pageant.
To all of you in Nigeria that get to stay home today…make sure u enjoy it! Ciao

I am happy she didn't win. The lingua franca in Nigeria is English and our contestant should refltct that. She shouldn't say things like "I am working on A projectS on sickle cell anemia", projectS implies plural. She rushed her introduction,we need to pick seasoned girls. I am sick of just sending off pretty airheads.

I happen to know Helen Prest(now Ajayi) and Nikki Osinowo personally and you might disagree with thier morals and say what you want about them but they are SMART!!! Have you heard them speak?Nikki finished with a first class before moving back to Nij from jand and Helen Prest is a damn good lawyer. Those are women who can hold thier own anywhere. We need to go back to finding such people to represent Nigeria.
These babes can barely construct sentences. I'm happy she didn't win.

In case it's not obvious I used the Nikki and Helen Prest reference because they are both past Nigerian beauty queens.

hmm on the 1st i attended church were serious prayers were said for Nigeria. Then i came home and watched the danceathon which took place in Nigeria. Did any of u guyz watch that?it was amazing those niaja pple have serious energy. The world record was 52hrs 3mins....and guess wat...Nigeria broke the record, HURRAY!!!I think there were abt 15pple(can't really remember) who were still left on the dance floor at this time. Anyway we made a new WORLD record of 53hrs 50mins and the last man(..woman) standing did 55hrs and she went home wit a prize of 1.5million naira.
    Up Up Naija!!!

  8. wow...thanks anonymous...I was going to write about it but I wasnt sure whether er broke it.

For those who dont know what anonymous is referring to...Silverbird and Nokia organized a danceathon in an effort to break the Guinness Book of records, record for longest dance party and we broke it...yay!
Winners got cash prizes and nokia phones

@slurp...i see where u r coming from but Nike, Helen, Toyin Raji etc... never won Miss World or Miss Universe.....so they had to look for the babes that would win international pageants for them...I know for a fact that a UPenn Cum Laude graduate was one of the contestants for MBGN this year and abiola beat her soooo I guess they know what they were looking for

  12. I watched some part of the pageant and saw Miss Nigeria during the swimwear event. Must say I was not really impressed; to be quite honest I dont think she was striking compared to the other contestants.

  13. didn't do anything for the 1st...well apart from working for half of the day. As per miss Nigeria...I don't even know what to say, is there any hope for another Agbani Darego?

her face isn't the greatest but i still supported her and she did do some charity work. she also has GREAT fashion sense.

anyway, miss anglo is overrated as were many of the african delegate. africa can do so much better than we do. i saw some of the otehr ladies abiola defeated in MBGN and i frankly don't know how she managed to do so

    ???

anyway, she's still pretty but not striking like agbani

  17. Lol @ Bella.... I can imagine how upset you must have been, not for getting stood up (or is it standed up) but for wastage of MAC. I can beat your friend on your behalf if you want.
By the way I have a solution to our Ms Nigeria problem... ELECT ADDY FOR THE POSITION and I swear I will not only bring the crown home, but I will also bring WATER and HOUSING for every Nigerian by the year 20-10....lol.. una go wait taya
